For most moms, the morning routine is hardly the highlight of the day. There are a lot of tasks that have to take place in a short time, and at the risk of stressing you out even more, many of them determine the success of your child’s day (like remembering the shoes for gym, the library book, math homework, money for the field trip…).
At the top of the list is breakfast. See our Top 10 Quick Breakfast Recipes.
You can have some fun in the morning with these wacky Breakfast Sushi made with your favourite combination of nut butter or cream cheese and a favourite fruit. The kids will have fun popping them in their mouths—serve with chopsticks for a little more Asian ‘flavour’.

Your kids will think you’re magic when you serve up this classic Chick-in-a-Hole recipe. Seriously, how did you get that egg in that piece of bread? Moms never give away their secrets—like the fact that you know how much protein is in one egg and why eating them in the morning is such a good way to start the day.

Move over oatmeal, because there’s a new grain in town. Warm Quinoa is packed with protein, it’s wheat-free and simply delicious when mixed with frozen berries and a drizzle of honey. Feed them these ancient grains for their developing brains and the rest should take care of itself.

Don’t shake it like a Polaroid picture. That’s so 2008. Shake it like an antioxidant-rich Breakfast Shake and start the day off fresh and full. Don’t be afraid to slip in some healthy fish oils or greens powder to enhance the health benefits of this super-kid drink. Make an extra glass for yourself, too.
If Bagels and Cream Cheese are a staple in your home, consider adding slices of fruit to the top of your whole wheat or multigrain buns, rather than slapping on jam or other sugar-filled spreads. Let the kids choose the fruit toppings—it’s like insurance that they’ll eat them and maybe even say “Thanks, Mom”.
So think outside the (cereal) box. There are lots of great ways to keep it simple and healthy in the mornings with just a bit of thought and preparation.
