Toronto: The Savvy Guide to September

So what if the temps are dropping and the leaves are falling. It’s time to embrace your new routine—and make sure you create one that gives you at least 20 minutes to grab a coffee or a yoga class. Here are some tips to make the most of this wonderfully structured month of September.

Start organizing your side hall/mud room/front closet
Why? So your mornings, afternoons and evenings can run more smoothly. But mostly so the mornings do. You’ll find some great ideas in our 22 Morning Time Savers.

Why? Because it’s a fun summer activity to do in September!

Programmed and sign your kids up for activities
Why? Routine is good for everyone. Kids crave it and moms need it to get through the day. Social interaction with humans is critical so make sure you and the kids are signed up for some community art, music or sports classes.

Four square
Why? It’s old school and kids love it. Draw a large square on the ground with lines dividing it into quadrants. One player stands in each numbered square. No. 1 goes first. The player bounces a ball from the outside corner of her square into another player’s square. That player must bounce the ball in his square once and return it to any other player’s square by hitting the ball back. Once the ball enters a new player’s square, it must be returned. Continue until a mistake eliminates someone. The winner is the last one standing.

Why? Because it’s a fun way to learn how to write letters. We’re not talking about the ABCs; we’re talking about rocket ships blasting off to form the letter ‘R.’ That’s fun.

Breakfast Mini Quiches
Why? So you have a ready-made delicious breakfast or lunch item to give the kids when you’re rushed. Make a whole bunch, eat some and freeze a lot more.

Why? Because everyone knows someone fighting cancer and the whole family can participate and raise funds for research that can help save lives.
