If the gift of time is on your list this season, we know you’re smart enough to ask for one of the books below and we hope you’re lucky enough to find some time to enjoy it.
Eat, Drink and Be Gorgeous…
With a title like that how can you not buy this book? Written by Esther Bloom, a very savvy and registered nutritionist and dietitian, this book dishes out as much substance as it does sass. With a trouble-shooting section on treating specific ailments, fast fixes, and delicious recipes for food and drink, Eat, Drink, and Be Gorgeous ($16), makes it possible to have that piece of cake and eat it too. It is the perfect inspiration to start the New Year off right (and gorgeously too).
Dish Isn’t the Only One Who Entertains…
We know you’re likely to be entertaining over the hols, so make sure you have this beautiful new cookbook, Dish Entertains, on hand for festive affairs or casual family meals. Author and savvy mom Trish Magwood has organized the book ($30) into two sections: everyday simple and special occasions. We think hors d’oeuvres can be a bit of a drag but the figs with blue cheese and walnuts are easy, yummy and perfect for the season. For our holiday party, we chose the Balsamic Pesto Chicken with the beautifully seasonal red Beet Risotto and added our own simple baby arugula salad. For dessert, the yummy Frozen Lemon Soufflé can be made a few days ahead and kept in the freezer so it requires no extra effort on the day.
Recycled Rhymes for Our Fragile Times…
...is the tag line for this rather untraditional take on the classic nursery rhymes in a book we’re enjoying called Other Goose. The opening rhyme will give you an indication of the book’s humorous yet thought-provoking take on the ills we are doing to the planet, from pollution to crooked politicians: “Little Miss Muffet had quite enough of it, clouds of second hand smoke…”. Don’t let the word “rhyme” fool you into thinking this is a children’s book ($13). It’s appropriate for all ages and sure to spark an “inconvenient truth” conversation if you leave it on the coffee table.
So put them on your list or add them to a stocking. Just don’t leave these books on the shelf this year.
P.S. Don’t forget to join our Savvymoms Believe Community for SickKids and help us reach our goal of raising $100,000 for a much needed transport incubator. Give now, and remember that even a little amount can go a long way.
