A long weekend is rapidly approaching. You know…the one time of year when chocolate and woodland creatures seem to be natural bedfellows?
Don’t crack up over what to do—our list of local TO events will keep you hopping all Easter weekend long.
You’ve been meaning to spring-clean the garage anyway, so pull out those folding chairs, dust them off and bring them along to the Toronto Beaches Lions Annual Easter Parade held on Sunday April 24 from 2 to 4 pm. The parade route goes from Neville Park West along Queen Street to Woodbine, with an estimated 50,000 parade goers enjoying the spirited family fun. It’s a great way to spend some time in one of the city’s best neighbourhoods—an egg-cellent place to spend the day.
Our city kids can’t get enough of their country cousins at Puck’s Farm. Just 25 minutes outside of the city, Puck’s is open seasonally for events, including Easter weekend. Young kids will have a field day with the Easter egg scramble, looking for hundreds of plastic-covered eggs scattered throughout a mini hay field. Sweet treats from the wandering Easter Bunny will be on offer as well as all the usual amusement farm fare—pony rides, wagon and carnival rides, corn mazes and farm animals.
While hens have a handle on the Easter holiday décor market, the egg remains supreme. But there is a skill to artful egg enhancement. Crafty kids aged six and up will enjoy the Todmorden Mills program on April 16 and 17 where they’ll learn to use wax to create their own pysanky (Ukranian Easter Egg). Learn to make a perfect homemade place card (er, egg) for Easter brunch or dinner. That’s savvy.
Bunnies, boys and girls can all be found on Centre Island April 22 to 24 at what they bill as Toronto’s largest Easter Egg Hunt at the Easter EGGstravaganza. Combined with raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis, the day is filled with arts and crafts, jumpy castles, enormous egg scrambles held at scheduled times, animals, and a few operational amusements from Centreville including the train and Bumble Bee ride. Refreshments are available on the island and the ticket price includes ferry rides.
And remember—whatever sort of rush you’re in next weekend (the sugar kind or otherwise), don’t forget to take some time out to stop and smell the lilies.
