Mom Maintenance

Beauty Options for Mom
Even Mom deserves a spring makeover and here’s where to get started.

We’re ready for a pat—make that a deep-tissue massage—on the back.

Firstly, we’re frazzled about all the frizz. You know, the kind that makes our hair look the opposite of smooth? Now that our latest hope (the Keratin blowout) has been banned, we’re looking for less-toxic hair treatments. Our first stop is Delineation Hair & Skin Essentials.

Michael Victor, our main man at Delineation is a seasoned and not-easily-impressed professional in all things beauty. So when a product gets him passionate, we get hopeful. We like his recommendation of the new Sojurn line of shampoos ($30 for 300 ml), conditioners ($34 for 250 ml) and styling products. Made with a proper pH base, Keratin cashmere protein, they’re gluten free, sodium sulphate free and could be the cure-all for that frizz.

Now that we’ve found hope for our hair cuticles, our hair dryer is under the microscope. It’s likely the smoking gun (literally) in our investigation over what happens to our healthy hair. Sure, there’s pregnancy and environmental factors, but dryers that are too hot essentially fry the follicle. For healthier looking hair, a new dryer is the verdict. Delineation carries a range of dryers from middle price-point to high. We like the Carrera 2 Ceramic by Babyliss (for thicker hair) or Whal dryers (for finer hair). They may just blow you away.

The most neglected item in our house (besides the fish tank) is our brows. We pay them scarce attention day to day, and then, in a pre-dinner party panic, manically sculpt eyebrows that make us look like angry birds (yes, those angry birds). Get them back in shape with a visit to a true professional who can groom you back to a graceful countenance. The Brow House in Leslieville does just that, with a focus on correcting and grooming your golden arches with expert hands and a good eye for proper brow formation based on your face shape. The Brow House offers great eye make-up tutorials and other services for more serious grooming.

Reductions are great…when it comes to shopping. When we’re talking about the ample assets we lost post-pregnancy, we’re not as enthusiastic. A better fit will lift more than our spirits, and The Little Bra Company (a line now carried by Secrets From Your Sister and Melmira) is the less-than-average endowed girl’s answer. Once you know your true size with a proper bra fitting, The Little Bra Company’s line offers, among others, the Sascha, a well-constructed ‘T-shirt bra’ great for lightweight clothing and warmer weather—also great to comfortably (and beautifully) park the girls while playing with the kids at…the park.

So this year, put yourself at the top of the list for spring tune-ups.
