What everyone knows: kids need a place to play and moms need a place to drink coffee.
What everyone doesn’t know: while moms are watching the kids and drinking coffee, they are also connecting, learning and building communities for themselves and their kids.
It might sound like a run-of-the-mill play date to you, but this is at the very core of Tracey Ibrahim’s business plan. She’s the proud proprietor of just-opened Gingerbread Lane in Port Credit, which she describes as “a community of fun, learning and relaxation committed to families and the neighbourhoods we live in”. Like most mom entrepreneurs, she saw a need in the market for such a place after her first child Quincy was born two years ago. Simply put, she wants to make life easier and more fun for moms. And the ‘word of mom’ seems to be spreading like wildfire as moms from Bloor West to Brampton have been making the trek to enjoy the lovely, bright and clean playground since she opened.
It sounds like she is well on her way to attaining her goal with all kinds of one-stop conveniences she is offering at her indoor plaground for parents and kids. While your kids are playing, you can enjoy a cup of coffee, grab a frozen lasagna for dinner that night, fill up the babies bottle (milk or formula) from the fridge, grab a snack, a light lunch, or pick up that birthday present you almost forgot for little Jack’s second bash that afternoon. Speaking of birthday parties, you can host one at Gingerbread Lane and Tracey will take care of all the details for you from loot bags to birthday cakes. (Did we mention there is a bakery in the back? Mmmmm—cinnamon buns.)
Worried about potty training or any other life altering toddler experiences coming up? You can find a great line up of speakers in the Something in Common Café, set up for parents only in the evenings.
Tracey will also be offering a drop off program which might come in very handy if you feel like some adult conversation over dinner with your beloved at a resto nearby or you decide to slip around the corner to the local Supperworks to prepare a few meals for your family. (Now that’s a savvy way to spend some time.)
It’s definitely a place for the kids to play and the moms to drink coffee—but there is so much more to it than that.
