Forty more shopping days and a long list ahead of you, we know. We feel your pain.
It’s not just the gifts you have to buy. You also have to wrap them and deliver them. You have to entertain, be entertained, have the right hostess gift, make it to the concert, meet project deadlines, decorate the house, bake, make sure your highlights are still there and your nails are good.
Most importantly, you really want to teach your kids the spirit of the holiday season so they don’t just think it is all about them and their gift list. But how?
We’ve got a suggestion to help you with this dilemma. Together with SickKids Foundation, we have established the SavvyMoms Believe Holiday Giving Campaign to raise much-needed funds for SickKids to buy critical hospital equipment, and we hope you will join us in our efforts.
To get started on the lesson of the holiday season, we’ve created a guide to inspire you with some ideas for family fundraising (hot chocolate stand, anyone?) that you can download here. You can also visit www.sickkidsfoundation.com/believe and show your kids some inspiring videos about some of the heroes at SickKids. Together, you and your kids can make a difference in the lives of children by joining our Family of Heroes.
To inspire and motivate your child’s efforts, you could even share Jack’s story. Jack, who is four years old, set up a lemonade stand to raise money for SickKids. With his efforts, not only did he bring the Oakville community together, but he raised over $14,000! Jack has intractable epilepsy and wanted to help other children the way SickKids helps him. Who would have guessed that a little kid could make such a big difference!
We at SavvyMom believe that kids come first and that is why we have worked with SickKids as our charitable partner since we began. We know that the holidays are all about kids so we thought it was the perfect time to launch a simple fundraiser for the kids at the Hospital.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 to buy a neonatal transport incubator which is used as a portable intensive care unit to transfer critically ill newborns or small infants from a community hospital or healthcare centre (sometimes directly from their delivery) to a more specialized facility like SickKids. If only 1,000 SavvyMoms across the GTA donate $100, we will reach our goal. If 350 give, we can buy an NICU infant incubator to replace the aging stock in the hospital and if even just 100 give, we can buy a portable dialysis pump to serve the needs of various hospital departments.
Please join the SavvyMom Believe Community by visiting the secure SickKids Foundation donation form and make the most generous gift you can. Take this opportunity to teach your children the “gift of giving” so they can be heroes this holiday season.
