‘Smart cookie’…what does that mean anyway?

Savvy moms know what it means because we think about cookies a lot. We think about store bought, homemade, peanut free, gluten free and trans fat free…and we think about finding cookies for our kids to eat that will make us (and them) feel better when eating them. Luckily, we found some smart cookies (moms, naturally) who make the kind of cookies you’ll get excited about.

Erin Hogan, savvymom to Jemma and Emily and master behind Jem’s Naturally Energizing Cookie, has been baking cookies for her kids for well over a decade. Erin is known to have run a few marathons and climb a few mountains in her day (seriously), so she knows what it’s like to need a bit of energy from time to time. She has mastered the truly healthy cookie that provides a delicious taste not usually found in convenient health food (we think you know what we mean). With their yummy combination of organic seeds, cranberries, apricots and chocolate, Jem’s are a wheat-free answer to healthy snacking for every member in the family. Find them at fine food stores across Toronto or order directly by phone or email.

If you have peanut concerns at home or in the classroom, we feel your pain and so do the savvy moms behind Two Moms Baked Goods, makers of Safe Snacks. Caroline Davis and Aime Rocket started the company just over a year ago because they were tired of sending their children to school with unhealthy, processed peanut-free snacks. So they took matters into their own kitchens and created a premium nut-free, kosher line of products that best represents their high demands for taste and nutritional value.

These moms wanted to create a line of products that their children could be proud of and it’s clear they know their audience with flavours like double chocolate chip, chocolate chip oatmeal and oatmeal raisin. But the audience doesn’t need to know these cookies are also low in fat and high in fibre, now do they? Caroline and Aime are also happy to host birthday parties and cooking classes for those interested in a peanut free facility.

Find them at specialty food stores across Toronto or contact the ‘Two Moms’ by email and order some cookies for yourself. Delivery is available for large orders.

To be a smart cookie or to eat a smart cookie? That is the question.
