Two down, two more to go (long weekends, that is). So make the most of the second half and live it up with your family like a real Canadian. Here’s our savvy guide to the month for some inspiration.
DO
Get away with your kids. A weekend, a day trip, anywhere….
Why? Because you deserve it. That’s why.
PLAY
A Scavenger Hunt at the cottage, in the backyard or at the local park. Make a list of things that the kids can search for—items can be all about nature or all about picking up the mess.
Why? Because we like them to develop their imagination but sometimes they need just a little bit of direction from you.
GET
Some Insoles from www.SummerSoles.com and get rid of sweaty summer feet.
Why? Because they are stylish and practical at the same time—two words that don’t usually go together with shoes.
GO
To the Summer Arts Party camp at the Koffler Centre of the Arts from August 27 to 31 for kids aged 6 to 16.
Why? Because your kids can learn to play the bongo drums from Ghana, learn from recording artists and master the art of break dancing. So hip it hurts, really. Call the Koffler at 416-636-1880 ext. 222.
GREEN IT
Adjust the temperature on your air conditioning by just a few degrees. (The recommended temperature is 25°C.)
Why? Because you won’t notice the difference but your energy bill will.
HELP
Buy a Blizzard on August 9 at the closest Dairy Queen location to you.
Why? Because proceeds will benefit SickKids and all the other Children’s Miracle Network hospitals across North America (and what better reason do you need to treat yourself than that).
So get out there and take one for the team. It’s a tough job, but we know we’re the only ones who can do it.
