Toronto: The Savvy Guide to August

August 2008
Sunflower with Bee

It’s not like we’re counting, but there are only 31 days left to wear white, eat wild blueberries and keep the pace turned down (at least one little notch).

Here are a few tips to help make sure you enjoy all 31 days.

DO
Sign up for an art and gallery tour (with Jack and Jill) in the Distillery District.
Why? Because you are still interested in doing new things, right? Check out Artstrollers where you can register online for their first event taking place on August 7.

GO
toronto.comTo The Canadian National Exhibition (aka “The Ex”).
Why? Because they are celebrating their 130th anniversary so there will be lots of new shows and attractions as well as all the old time faves.

PLAY
A little later with your kids one night (around the 12th) and let them star gaze.
Why? The Perseids are active from July 17 to August 24 this year, with their peak on the morning of August 12. So lie back and enjoy the show.

GET
The Ultimate Back to School Package from Mabels Labels.
Why? Because that’s all you need to ease your back to school anxiety this month. Just order online and then you can check off everything else on your list after Labour Day.

READ
One of the books on the Summer Reading List that you have been meaning to pick up.
Why? Because you still have time for a good summer read.

GREEN IT
Change your AC filter in the car and clean out the one in your house (it’s easy).
Why? You’ll have cleaner air, lower bills and a better performing air conditioner.

HELP
Buy a Dairy Queen Blizzard on August 7.
Why? Because Dairy Queen will be hosting their 6th annual Miracle Treat Day. On this special day, participating DQ locations will donate all proceeds from the sale of Blizzards to local children’s hospitals across North America through the Children’s Miracle Network.

So gather ye blueberries while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying.
