Toronto: The Savvy Guide to July

July 2007

Remember March?

We recommend blocking it out, actually. Just be glad it’s July and embrace it with a little help from our Savvy Guide for this month.

DO
Make a promise to yourself (and your family) to make the most of summer by picking three fun and special things that you would like to do (within reason) and put them on your calendar to make sure they happen.
Why? Because summer is only eight short weeks and we don’t want it to get past you!

GO
Strawberry picking.
Why? Because there are only 3 more weeks left to eat berries that taste like candy.

GET
A summer read for you and for your kids.
Why? Because whatever your age, a good book is just plain old good, and when you read you are setting a good example for your kids. So bring out the hammock and show them how it’s done. Watch for our summer reading guide next week.

PLAY
Hide and Go Seek with the adults against the kids
Why? Because there are always better places to hide in the summer where nobody can find you and it’s a great way to discover new places if you happen to be away from home on a weekend or summer holiday.

GREEN IT
Buy local fruits and veggies
Why? Because it tastes better, it’s fresher (and therefore has more nutrients) and by doing so you can help reduce carbon emissions (as none of the goods had to be shipped here from far away).

HELP
Sign up for the Midsummer Night’s Run and help raise funds for the SickKids Foundation in support of pediatric rheumatism (aka arthritis).
Why? We didn’t know it either, but arthritis is the most chronic common childhood disease in North America.

Happy Summer and a safe long weekend.
