Since Vancouver is a city of neighbourhoods, it’s good to get out of yours once in a while and see what’s going on in the other ones. Topping our list this season for great ‘hoods to visit is Kerrisdale. Not only is there a great mix of new and well-established spots for mom, but there are lots of options for kids too.
We always like to pop into the Hills of Kerrisdale (to check out the latest trends) and Thomas Hobbs Florist before heading to She to Shic (for a little ‘me’ time).
With kids in tow, and if it’s sunny, grab your picnic blanket and get your Healthee lunch to go. Choose from one of Kerrisdale’s many great parks, including Centennial, Elm, or Maple Grove Park (especially once the outdoor pool opens for the summer in June) and enjoy a picnic lunch with the kids.
After lunch, take the kids on a trip to Cowboys and Angels, which opened this past December. It’s a toy store and ceramics and portrait studio all in one. Browse the fun toys, or have your kids paint ceramics. The ceramic studio operates on a drop-in basis, so there are no set classes or projects (prices vary by piece, average is $15). And if, after all that, they still need to blow off steam, head to the Play Palace at the Kerrisdale Arena, which is open from May 4–September 2.
Fresh air, healthy food, exercise, and art—we won’t be feeling a lot of mama guilt after a day like this. In fact, we might just make this a regular summer outing.
