Summer time is outdoor party time, and we’ve found family-friendly festivals with al fresco dining and dancing in the street!
Harrison Festival of the Arts – Children’s Day
If you’re hankering for a road trip, then hit the highway and head for Harrison Hot Springs on July 13. It’s Children’s Day at the Festival featuring a mime-magician and various musical performers ($6 admission). There’s also a climbing wall, giant sandbox and water play area. Be sure to take a dip at the Harrison Resort Public Pool (an indoor, hot mineral water pool) or splurge for an overnight stay at the resort.
Spirit of the Sea
There’s no better place to beat the summer heat than the sandy beaches of White Rock. This seaside community’s annual festival (July 29 to August 1) features a special children’s parade and carnival complete with crafts, games and storytelling. An evening fireworks display and torchlight parade are also planned—fun if the kids are still awake!
Dancing in the Street
Don’t miss the third annual Family Dance Night on August 19 in picturesque Edgemont Village. Young and old alike will enjoy grooving to the classic rock beat of The Bobcats. It’s all part of a summer concert series running every Friday night (weather permitting). Other bands in the line-up play everything from country to Cajun music. Be sure to bring along a lawn chair and an appetite—Japa Dog and Roaming Dragon will be on the street!
Good to Know: Make a day of it with an afternoon visit to nearby Grouse Mountain or Capilano Suspension Bridge (don’t miss the new Cliffwalk).
Kerrisdale Days
Catch a classic village vibe at Kerrisdale Days from August 25 to 27 (most events are on the Saturday) where the kids will love the face painting, clowns, rides and free birthday cake (and moms will love the sidewalk sale specials). Check out the colourful new banners and swing by the clock (41st and Yew) for live music every Saturday afternoon this summer.
Don’t forget to check our new GoSavvy Event Finder for events all across Canada, all year long.
So go ahead and save the date for these fun summer soirées—no RSVP required! Tested by Carolyn Warner, North Vancouver
