Get Your Game On

Affordable Sporting Events
Looking to enjoy a sporting event at an affordable price with the kids? Try these out.

Kids love being entertained and parents love getting out of the house. Right?

That’s why local sporting events are a great idea for a fall family outing.

Skip the downtown traffic, pay a fraction of the game price at Rogers Arena, and head to UBC to watch your favourite Thunderbird team in action. Choose from T-Birds football, hockey, basketball and volleyball, and watch an entertaining game with highly competitive male and female athletes (who may be among the next up-and-coming professional superstars) in a fan-friendly atmosphere (read: kids can make noise and you can afford the tickets).

Your girls may find inspiration in watching one of the women’s hockey, basketball and volleyball teams, too. Add in the brand new $20 family pass (which includes admission for up to five family members) and the deal gets even better. As a bonus, Saturday, October 29 is the last regular season home football game (2 pm against University of Calgary), and the T-Birds are putting on a great Halloween celebration for families who attend. Children under 12 are encouraged to come in costume and participate in a half-time parade across the field. They’ll get to meet Thunder the mascot, take home a loot bag and lots of other fun giveaways.
Good to Know: Men’s and women’s basketball, hockey and volleyball seasons are just getting started, and birthday party packages are also available.

If you live further East in the city, the Vancouver Giants are a WHL team (Western Hockey League), offering great junior hockey. The White Spot Family Nights are an economical way to enjoy their games. For $95, your family can dine at the local White Spot of your choice prior to the game (two pirate packs and two burger platters are included). The package also includes game-night parking at the Pacific Coliseum, a $10 gas card for Chevron, and four Red category tickets for a home game on Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening. With an alumni roster that includes NHL stars like Boston Bruin Milan Lucic, you know the caliber of play will be excellent, too.
Good to Know: Birthday party packages are available for groups of 10 or more people.

Regardless of where you take your kids to watch a game, bring your own snacks and be prepared to leave early, based on the age and attention span of your kids.

Enjoy a low-cost night of great family entertainment. Game over. Tested by Michelle T., Vancouver
