Locally Made Kids’ Clothing
Handmade Vancouver

Finding quality (and original) kids’ clothing can be tough, so we were excited to find some creative, local mom entrepreneurs who are breaking the fashion design mould for girls, boys and even babies. Best of all, these funky threads are locally-made, right here in the ‘groove’.

Active Girls
Frustrated trying to find age-appropriate, functional active wear for her own three daughters, Carolyn Bishop, created LiLiKiKs in 2007. Her idea was to make versatile active and team wear for girls aged 5 to 14 that was not overly trendy. She wanted her clothes to transition between activities and seasons (think soccer field to dance class). The result is high-quality, comfortable technical clothing, with fantastic design details to add some flare. LiLiKiKs used to be in Kerrisdale, but recently moved to an online store with a factory storefront. We just wish her designs came in adult sizes, too!

Stylish Boys
Alexis Hinde, creator of Chill Monkeys, faced the same dilemma when shopping for her young son. Not interested in graphic tees of licensed characters, she was unable to find stylish boys’ clothes, so she decided to create her own. Inspired by hand-tailored, vintage men’s styles, her first product was the Darwin newsboy cap. These classic hats come in five different sizes and three colours, and all have an elasticized band to allow for growth. Alexis plans to expand to include a full line of clothing over the next few years, so stay tuned.

Fashionable Tots
Alexandra Weaver and Amanda Kaffka have stepped in to fill the stylish and practical baby and toddler void with Snugglings. Known for their bamboo/cotton blend slings and blankets, Snugglings added leg warmers (snugwarmers) and hats to their offering a year ago. This fall, they expanded their designs and now have twelve fun snugwarmers, and matching baby toque motifs to choose from.

And for high-quality, organic cotton, short and long-sleeve tees and onesies, check out newly launched Zoolu Organics. Owner Patricia Abbott decided to create her own line of ethically-made, eco-friendly baby and kids’ clothing after the birth of her son. She designs all the amazing animal prints herself and then silk-screens them onto the shirts by hand with a water-based dye, free of PVCs.

Hip, unique, quality clothing that your kids will love from local designers and manufacturers—it is easy to ‘fall’ for these picks.
