Happy Cakes

Birthday Cakes

Putting on a birthday frolic for your little one can be a pressure-laden task. You want them to remember it forever (admit it), but you don’t want to go over the top with hired help and $20 loot bags. Start with the cake and follow some of our savvy suggestions that will help keep the ‘happy’ in ‘birthday’ and the ‘cake’ in ‘cake’.

Candles are a must, but everything else is optional when it comes to the birthday dessert.

Keep It Small
Excitement and small tummies often result in half-finished slices of cake. Avoid waste and get instant oooohs and ahhhhs by serving up a selection of tasty and gorgeous mini cupcakes instead. Visit the Cupcakes location nearest you (Edgemont Village location coming soon too) and pick a selection in different colours and flavours. (Yes, you may be forced to test some out, for the sake of your child.) A dozen mini cupcakes are $10. If you are in the Fort Langley area, visit Tracycakes on Glover Road for multi-flavoured, lip-smacking frosted creations. Her “Babycakes” sell for $8.95/dozen.

Whip It Up
Is your party in the park? Forget the ice cream and put a can of whipped cream in the cooler instead.
