Taking some time to nurture our mind, body and soul this Mother’s Day seems much more Zen than lining up for brunch. With that in mind, here’s the scoop on how to enjoy some well-deserved relaxation and mommy-time this weekend.
Relax
Grab your mother (or daughter) and head to She to Shic in Kerrisdale. This boutique eco-salon offers organic pedicures, manicures, waxing, threading, lash extensions and blow-outs. We love that they thought of everything, from low-VOC paint and recycled glass countertops, to 100% bamboo clothes, vegan nail polishes and amazing organic sugar scrubs from Hawaii. Each week they have Mother and Daughter Sundays—two classic manis and pedis for $75 (girls under 12 receive a Princess Treatment). This Mother’s Day, they are celebrating with sparkling apple juice and chocolate daisies, so book soon to ensure your spot.
Indulge
Let your family show their love with a heart-shaped necklace that you can wear as you enjoy your day of pampering. Locally-made, this reclaimed wenge-wood necklace is hand-sanded and finished with natural beeswax and oil and available at Lavish and Lime.
Read
Grab your copy of Between Interruptions, edited by local author Cori Howard. Because every so often, it is great to have some time for reflection, and this thought-provoking compilation of short stories on motherhood will provide great material while relaxing.
Invigorate
Grab your baby, stroller and work-out gear and head to one of the participating Fit4Two locations for an outdoor Stroller Fitness Class in honour of Mother’s Day. Fit4Two offers many different types of fitness classes (with or without baby), and this might be the motivation to start your spring fitness regime.
Nourish
If you prefer to spend your precious free time honing your cooking skills, enroll in Quince’s Mother’s Day culinary class. Grab your mom or girlfriend and enjoy an afternoon of hors d’oeuvres, wines, dessert and tea. Learn to make Dungeness crab cakes with suey choy cabbage and apple and fennel salad, and finish the afternoon off with organic strawberries and passion fruit mousse. This class is filling up, so register soon ($75 per person).
So if you’re looking for a day of guilt-free pampering, there’s only one thing to do. Forward this on to someone who is looking for some gift inspiration (we think you know who that is). It’s just being helpful.
