It’s no newsflash that scheduling some personal time for mom is good for you (and everyone around you), but who really does that?
If you need help getting started, we found a couple of amazing and yet completely different courses that are all about you and what’s important to you as an individual. (Seriously now, when was the last time you thought about that?) And since they are run by local moms who know all too well the struggle we face trying to balance it all, you can rest assured no one will be preaching to you when you get there.
The Momoir Project is a great option for those of us who like to write. Whether you want to write a journal as a keepsake or publish a story, writing is a great way to channel your (very) personal experience of motherhood. You might have already heard about The Momoir Project, but you might not know about all of the new and more flexible options available to moms, such as flexibility with two-hour, stand-alone workshops and a one-night course at Munch, The Family Restaurant (complete with a couple glasses of wine and some appies—just what you need to get inspired).
Mama Renew is another great option for moms looking to find time for insight, reflection and learning. Over the past two years, co-founders Sarah Juliusson and Jennifer-Lee Koble have expanded their original business scope from classes for prenatal to newborn to include courses for moms of toddlers and beyond. Mama Renew has course offerings in eight neighbourhoods this fall, including two new locations: Burnaby and White Rock.
All courses are taught by experienced facilitators who lead moms through group discussions on a broad spectrum of topics such as life balance, identity and relationships. The discussions are augmented by time for self-reflection through journaling. The sessions are once per month for two-and-a-half hours. The cost for this series is a sliding scale of $150–250. You decide what you can afford and no one asks any questions.
As the saying goes: “When Mom is happy, everyone is happy.” So stop stalling, and make your needs a priority.
Manners are important to moms. So it won’t surprise you that at SavvyMom Media we try our best to keep the discussion respectful. While we hope you will share your thoughts in the comments, we ask that you keep it clean. Please avoid all profanity, derogatory terms, advertising/spam, and unsubstantiated personal attacks.
