New Duds for Dads

New Brooks Brothers Vancouver Store
Boy in Brooks Suit

Although we hate to admit it, we love shopping in the US—at least for stuff we can’t get here, of course. (That’s a big part of the allure.) But for Vancouverites, there is now one less reason to battle the Peace Arch border crossing. One of America’s most established clothiers, Brooks Brothers, has finally come to Canada, choosing Vancouver as its launching point.

Last month, Brooks Brothers opened its giant double doors here, adding significantly to the swank factor on Alberni Street. The 11,000-square-foot space is dedicated mostly to men but has a growing women’s section and a section for little boys, with little girls’ clothes coming soon. For those (few) not familiar with the line, Brooks Brothers has been around for almost 200 years, outfitting America’s biggest names, from JFK to Obama, and it is known for its classic look. Vancouver’s store carries Brooks’ tried and true items. But it’s the newer ProSport line of casual clothes and active wear that is getting a lot of attention. With a Nike-esque feeling to it, full of technical fabrics and with-it designs, ProSport was brought to Alberni Street to fit to our West Coast lifestyle and to suit our wet coast weather—just in time for the Olympics.

We spotted a couple of items that make Brooks worth a stop for SavvyMoms. Our best find is the appropriately named Miracle Shirt, which Oprah included in her “Top 10 Wardrobe Must-Haves” last year. The Miracle Shirt is a no iron (as in never iron) dress shirt which comes in three different cuts for women and lots of colours and patterns. The shirt (made of 97% cotton and 3% magic) literally comes out of the dryer after twenty minutes looking like it’s been to the dry-cleaner. Brooks Brothers makes a Miracle Shirt for the men in our lives too with enough cut, collar, cuff and colour choices to make you dizzy (hello, Father’s Day).

If your little man needs to look suave and debonair for a special occasion, Brooks Boys is your best bet. Outfitted in a dapper blazer and bowtie, along with his very own mini Miracle Shirt, your little Brookie will be ready for any social event with grandma. The handsome blazers are an investment though, so you’ll want to buy with room to grow. We love that Brooks Brother’s has its own tailors on hand in the store so that you can do just that.

Peace out, Peace Arch.

Good to Know: About Father’s Day…we heard there was a Father’s Day sale starting tomorrow and running until the big day. If you miss it, be sure to catch the Semi Annual Sale starting on June 22.
