Reignite Date Nite

Vancouver Date Night and Child Care Options
Wine Glasses

You might have said “date night, shmate night” in your LBK (life before kids), but now you are wise enough to appreciate the importance of a quiet, civilized meal, filled with adult conversation between you and your beloved. But what to do with the kids, and where to go for dins?

Read on, sister—we’ve got some great options that will make date night a reality for you.

The Kids
Jump! Gymnastics, founded just over a year ago by Jennifer Hood, a local savvy mom to two girls (and another baby on the way!) is now offering an evening childcare program. Jennifer has over 15 years of experience working with different gymnastics organizations across Canada, and she used this knowledge to build an exciting new approach to gymnastics. Her programs and space are both fabulous and worth looking into for lessons with the kids, but we’re here to tell you about the evening childcare program.

This fall, Jump! is offering an evening childcare program for kids 2.5 (and close to potty trained) to 8 years on the last Friday of each month (starting on September 25). This allows Mom and Dad to get out for an evening on the town while the kids enjoy three hours (5–8 pm) of gymnastics, games, and crafts by Craft Caravan. All you need to do is call ahead to reserve your spot (space is limited), pack the kids a picnic dinner, and say good-bye at the door. $26 per child is worth the price for civility (perhaps even romance) at the table.

The Adults
Two of our fave new dining options are close enough to the kids at Jump!

Latitude opened earlier this summer and is a perfect option for fine dining. Owned by the same food geniuses who started the highly-regarded RainCoast Café in Tofino, Latitude serves up westcoast inspired dishes that are unique and very tasty. It’s an excellent upscale addition to the fun and funky Main Street scene.

For a more casual date night, the recently opened Stellas on Cambie is a great option in the Cambie Street Village. Apart from their extensive selection of beer, they have a good selection of wines, tapas and mains. Most importantly, the very lively restaurant does not feel like a pub: the décor is modern, more like a neighbourhood bistro. And, if the weather is good, there is some outdoor patio seating (often hard to come by in Vancouver).

So, Jump! to it and make date night a fun, new part of your routine this fall.
