September can be the cruelest month for a parent’s pocket book, rivalling only December for money going out. So it makes sense that some excellent consignment stores for kids and moms in and around Greater Victoria are becoming the first stop on a savvy mom’s shopping list. 

Most kids outgrow rather than outwear their clothes, so why not pass the clothes on to someone else and get some money back from your original investment? Here are four of our favourite consignment clothing boutiques across the city. All carry new and used items that are clean and in good condition and usually sell for a fraction of the original price.

A to Z Kids is the only consignment store in the West Shore area—they have items for babies, maternity clothes and clothes for kids up to 14 years old. Good to know: They’re also one of the few stores in the city to sell Phil and Ted’s strollers.

Clothesline Clothing Company is located on West Saanich Road and boasts a large selection of clothes for ladies, babies, kids, teens and moms-to-be. Good to know: They’re the go-to place for dance leotards, ballet, tap or jazz shoes, and soccer cleats. 

Abra-Kid-Abra is located on Oak Bay Avenue. They have a large consignment area for kids and are well known for their selection of dress-up clothes, rain gear and swimwear. Good to know: A popular feature is their rental section for baby furniture, strollers, car seats and carriers. 

Verve is a store focused on moms in Victoria. Located on Government Street, it’s a designer consignment store that carries a wide selection of lines—sometimes with clothing that still has the tags on. This is the store for working moms or for that special night out when you don’t want to spend a fortune.

It’s not just about getting the good deal. You’re saving the planet by recycling your old stuff and reusing someone else’s. It’s the new circle of life—er, shopping.
