The usual resolutions are just another thing on your to do list, so we say forget about them since you’re perfect just the way you are. We’ve got some simple resolutions that will help make January a bit more fun instead.
DO
Resolve to remember the magic of the holidays and save that note to Santa as a keepsake.
Why? Because the magic doesn’t last, but it’s beautiful while it does.
GO
Resolve to attend the Pink in the Rink events. Kids can meet the Salmon Kings’ players, play games and win prizes, and then cheer them on the following night at the game.
Why? Nothing is more Canadian than hockey. And $5 goes to the BC Cancer Foundation.
GET
Resolve to encourage your children to help with chores and get a new shovel for yourself, your beloved and the kids.
Why? If you have to do it, you may as well make it a fun family activity.
PLAY
Resolve to play in the snow with your kids more by creating your own snowman box out of old items around the house such as buttons, scarves, old mittens and more. You could even include a carrot.
Why? Because it’s the box that completes the (snow)man.
READ
Resolve to read more with your kids, starting with our favourite wintery book, the latest from Barbara Reid, Perfect Snow.
Why? Because her plasticine illustrations are incredible.
SURF
Resolve to find educational websites like www.veryawesomeworld.com.
Why? Because we live in an awesome world, a very awesome world. And we should look for new ways to explain that to our kids.
HELP
Resolve to make dinner time easier and help the children at SickKids Hospital with a purchase of a Nicely Nourished Recipe Calendar, which provides weeknight dinner ideas, easy-to-follow recipes, weekly shopping lists and nutritional tips all in a complete 2010 calendar.
Why? Because for every calendar you buy, the mom entrepreneurs behind Nicely Nourished will donate $15 of the $30 price to the SavvyMom Holiday Crib Campaign. Just order at www.nicelynourished.com and mention SavvyMom at checkout.
GREEN IT
Resolve to waste less water. Start by checking that there are no water leaks in your house. Turn off all water in the house and read the meter. Wait one hour (making sure no water is turned on during this period), and read the meter again. If the meter does not read exactly the same, there is a leak.
Why? Because a water leak is a waste of money and worse, a waste of one of our most precious resources.
DEAL IT
Enter code WISHSAVVY10 and get 10% off of your entire order of kids’ sheets from Wish Bedding.
Why? Because a new year is the chance for a clean slate (or even better, clean sheets).
