Just when we were starting to think it’s a completely off-the-wall idea to find something suitable (and reasonably priced) to decorate the walls of our kiddos’ rooms, we uncovered a couple of great new alternatives to the ubiquitous vinyl stick-on art that seems to be everywhere these days.
The creation of Pauline Duffy, Toronto-based mom entrepreneur and art teacher, Bobokai is a fun, colourful, visually stimulating line of original (Canadian-made) modern graphic prints. With several series appearing in various colour combinations, there are 28 different designs in all, ranging from the calming tones of the Calm Palm series, to the more flamboyant look of the Funkey Munkey series.
Each print is created by hand (Pauline’s hand, to be precise) with archival materials and high-quality pigmented inks, making each one unique and full of visual texture. They are available as giclee paper prints in two different sizes (both of which fit the IKEA Ribba frames), or stretched canvas prints. They range in price from $19–159, which makes it much easier to add to your original Canadian art collection than for most galleries.
Because the various prints in the collection are meant to be grouped together, the site offers a fun and useful ‘Gallery Configurator’, where you can drag and drop the designs you like to see how they will go together on your walls. The only downside to all this is the trouble you’ll have deciding which combination you like best.
