Sugar Bush Fun

March is maple syrup season here in Southern Ontario. While there are in-city options (more on that in a moment), this is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the country, while tasting some delicious, locally produced maple syrup. Two popular options are Mountsberg Conservation Area’s Maple Town (2259 Milburough Ln., Campbellville) and Crawford Lake Conservation Area’s Sweetwater Season (3115 Conservation Rd., Milton), both organized by Conservation Halton. Maple Town runs on weekends and holidays, including March break, from Monday March 4 to April 9. Tickets, which start at $8.75 (kids under five are free), get you access to demonstrations, exhibits and even tastings. For additional fees, there are additional activities including a wagon ride, a meet and greet with the park’s feathered friends, and even a pancake breakfast. Sweetwater Season, which runs over the same time period, puts an Indigenous spin on the traditional sugar shack and explores both Indigenous and modern ways of making maple sugar. Access to Crawford Lake starts at $7.25 (kids under five are free), with the maple taffy costing an additional $3.50.

If you want to stay somewhat close to home, check out the Kortright Centre for Conservation’s Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival (9550 Pine Valley Dr., Woodbridge).
