All you need is a few minutes on the Google machine to prep for this hilariously fun family movie. Arm yourself with trivia about the star characters in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb while your kids still believe you know everything. Here are 10 reasons why we're loving the latest installment of the hit series.
-
1. Because It’s Filmed in One of the Greatest Museums in the World
The movie takes you from The Museum of Natural History in NYC (with all of our favourite characters), to the incredible Natural History Museum, London. This might be the closest you get to either of these museums for some time. Pay attention.
-
2. Because It’s the Last Movie Robin Williams Made, and He Nailed it, as Always.
Robin Williams' portrayal of Teddy Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, is perfect. He reminds us of the awesome talent that was Robin Williams and also that qualities like loyalty and dependability are important in leaders—something our modern politicians could pay attention to (insert teachable moment here).
-
3. Because Owen Wilson is Once Again Co-Starring as Jedediah.
Moms love Owen Wilson, and kids love cowboys. Be sure you know who this wandering mountain man, born in 1799, is. He's credited for being the first white man to travel overland from the Salt Lake frontier, the Colorado River, the Mojave Desert, and finally into California. Translated into toddler speak: ‘He walked all the way across the country to California'. That's one cool cowboy.
-
4. Because You’ll See Sir Lancelot, a Lot.
This modern version of the infamous Sir is a bit bumbling, but he certainly has the same good looks and charm fit for a Queen. Be sure to get your story straight on this member of the Round Table. Kids love knights, so they'll want to know who he is.
-
5. Because Attila Brings a Whole New Meaning to the Word ‘Hun’.
The most feared emperor of the Huns lived way, way back in 453. Let the kids sit and do the math on how long ago that was—then enjoy the silence.
-
6. Because Your Kids Will Ask You Why It's Funny That Octavius Has No Idea Who Teddy Roosevelt Is
With all the mixed-up historical timelines in the movie your kids will find Emperors frolicking with Presidents, and everyone in between. Another great teachable moment for you, so make the past your present.
-
7. Because Sacajawea is a Savvy Lady
Fans of the Fancy Nancy books will already be familiar with this smart lady. Let the kids watch in awe as she uses her smarts and know-how to save the day—we wish there were more women like her in the film. Now there's a great topic of discussion for the car ride home.
-
8. Because There is a Caveman Who Looks a Lot Like Ben Stiller.
This familiar looking guy escapes from the museum and goes to a nightclub…and he's the only one in the nightclub with a club. That's funny.
-
9. Because Families Can Relate.
Larry (Ben Stiller) is just another dad who is trying to do his job and be the guy he wants to be for his son. All parents can relate to that.
-
10. Because It's Fun and Funny—for the Whole Family
You'll laugh and learn along with your kids throughout this star-studded movie. The third in the series is still a winner—these guys just don't get old.
