5 Ways to Give Back in Calgary
As winter gets closer and we start to prepare for the excitement of the holiday season, it's important to think of other families in the community that might not be feeling as joyous. We've rounded up some deserving charities and programs in Calgary where you and your family can lend a helping hand.

Smaller Footprints
Tis' the season of office parties and family gatherings, which can only mean it's the season of re-gifting. Smaller Footprints has created the ultimate solution. All you have to do is add your event details to one of their invitations, choose your favourite local charity and your guests donate the money they would spend on a not-so-great gift to a deserving cause. Money well spent.
-
Snow Angels
This City of Calgary program encourages citizens to identify neighbours in need of assistance and take responsibility for removing snow and ice from their sidewalks, driveway or pathways to ensure safe access. There's no need to register for this goodwill program. Just grab a shovel, your kids and head out. Introduce your family to your neighbours and add a personal community connection to this gift.
-
EvenStart Foundation
The EvenStart for Children Foundation of Calgary operates a preschool for severely at-risk children (as well as other community programs). They facilitate a hamper service to the families of these children through the incredible dedication of teachers and volunteers during the holiday season. Your children might not have the opportunity to meet the recipient families, but kids can participate by organizing and shopping (with you) for the contents of the hamper.

Calgary Family Services
During the holiday season, Calgary Family Services is a great place to find local volunteering opportunities for you and your family. One of their most popular ways to give back is by helping out CARES Nurture Yourself Program at Bankers Hall. You can volunteer your time by wrapping gifts, or you can bring your own presents to be wrapped for only $3 an item. Either way, you're taking part in the true spirit of the holidays.

Farm2School Alberta
Moms know that kids need good food to learn, and apparently the people who started Farm2School Alberta know how much both of those things matter. Simply put, they created a program that allows you to raise money for your school and support local farmers by purchasing farm fresh produce for your family. With two bundle choices of seasonal produce ($12 or $22), your school keeps 50% of the proceeds.
