9 Ethical Kids' Clothing Shops
We grew up reading Naomi Klein's ‘No Logo' and fully believe in the importance of buying sustainably- and ethically-produced goods. But taking a look at our littles' closets, we see that our buying patterns don't always reflect our beliefs. Here's a list of the best places to get sweatshop-free, ethically-made clothes for kids with a bevvy of organic and eco-conscious options included. Because whether we're at the mall or shopping online, we have purchasing power—and we're gonna use it.

Mini Mioche
Mini Mioche has always been our go-to for soft, comfortable clothes fitting wee babes up to big kids. We're not sure what we love more, their beanies, circle scarves or easy to pull on tops—but since our little kiddos need all of those items, we don't have to choose. Even better: they're organic, eco-conscious and made in Canada.
-
Darling Littles
Darling Littles is an itty bitty Canadian online shop with carefully curated products. We particularly love that the Ottawa-based founders give back to selected charities with a baby/child focus. This month a percentage of the proceeds from their super amazing swaddle blankets go to the Million Dollar Baby fund—a worthy cause indeed.
-
Hatley
Not just for pajamas and rain gear (although those are fabulous, too), Hatley has a whole suite of well-made clothes for girls and boys. We love the preppy feel of the fun patterns, the company's mission to create quality clothes, and their support of an orphanage in India near where the clothes are made.
-
Little and Lively
Oh those soft leggings (which our babes live in). Oh those top knot hats. Another made-in-Canada success story, we love everything in the Little and Lively (formerly known as Carmen West Creative) Etsy shop.
-
Roots
Popular when we were teens with allowances to burn, Roots is experiencing a resurgence of cool with kids today. Not only are they sweatshop free, we're finding that the bottoms are incredibly durable in the knee region as well.
-
Ollie Jones
We're so smitten with all of the handmade-in-Canada clothes at Ollie Jones, from the harem pants to the absolutely amazing hi-low skirts. With the spring and summer patterns now available, we're tempted to buy up the entire (all-organic) collection.
-
Little Citizens
Looking for well-made, ethically-sourced basics for your babe? We're talking leggings, sleepers, onesies, hats and burp cloths in neutral, not garish colours? You can get all those items made by Little Citizens Apparel, based in Vancouver. And even better? They're all in complementary colours to allow for endless outfit combos.
-
American Apparel
Although the ads and window displays may be a tad risqué, the innocent kids' line from this granddaddy of sweatshop-free clothing shops has the basics all sewn up. From logo-free hoodies to sweats, tees and pants, we can stock the closet knowing that each piece was made ethically—plus they won't break the bank.
-
Von Bon Apparel
We love the on-trend patterns of Von Bon Apparel's made-in-Vancouver creations, and the bib bandanas and rockin' headbands in particular have stolen our hearts. Perfect for a gift or to keep for your own wee lass.
