Even in a pandemic, June is no joke. The countdown to the last day of school is officially on, but this month is usually bursting with year-end projects, school assemblies, recitals, fun fairs, and report cards. Summer sports would cross over with school extracurriculars, meaning our weeknights were twice as busy (and we thought it wasn’t possible to be any busier).
Now we have an overabundance of “quality” family time. But we’re finally allowed to leave the house…

Fraser River Discovery Centre
The Fraser River Discovery Centre’s Historical Walking Tours begin Saturday, June 5. Learn about the environment, history, and culture of the Fraser River while strolling down the New Westminster quay. Tours are offered Saturdays at 10:30am and Sundays at 2:00pm September 5th. Quayside fully-guided tours are typically 90 minutes long and take place rain or shine, so dress for the weather.

Vancouver International Children’s Festival
Until June 13, it’s reimagined fun at the 2021 Vancouver International Children’s Festival with an extraordinary online line-up of world-class theatre, music, dance, and storytelling created specifically for children. Tickets are on sale now.
The festival will offer online performances with an extra seven days of extended show viewing. Watch a show online from the comfort of home from until June 13 with pay-what-you-can pricing.

Strawberry Days at Maan Farms
Strawberry Days are happening until June 13 at Maan Farms, who boast the most beautiful strawberry field in the Fraser Valley. Come do U-Pick and take a photo with their giant Strawberry in their new Strawberry Picnic Area. Come with the fam to enjoy U-Pick strawberries (book in advance), pre-picked strawberries, baby goats at the petting zoo, meet the Strawberry Princess (weekends only), plus strawberry ice-cream, mini doughnuts, shortcake, and Mama Maan’s famous strawberry pie.
More attractions include the play area, zipline, tire crawl, jumping pillow (weather permitting), play fort, and trike track. Covid-19 protocols are in effect.
From $5-$40 per person, strawberries priced separately. Children 2 and under are free.
Sea Smart’s Explore the Shore Challenge
From now until September 30, safely spend time outdoors completing ocean-friendly challenges with your family and friends at local Vancouver beaches and enter to win amazing prizes. Sea Smart offers 30 family-friendly challenges like examining animal tracks, doing a beach cleanup, and identifying sea stars, and 10 location-specific challenges.
Each challenge takes between 5-45 minutes and can be done at any beach. Start your adventure by earning badges and sharing your completed challenges using the hashtag #ExploreSeaSmart for a chance to win a prize.
