4 Natural Skin Care Products in Your Pantry
Looking to green your skin care routine this year? Start with some simple ingredients in your own pantry, says Graydon Moffat, ingredient anthropologist and owner of GRAYDON, Clinical Luxury by Nature, a natural skin care line based in Toronto. We asked her for some easy, inexpensive and effective solutions for natural skin care and she sent us her favourite ingredients for nourishing your skin at home.
-
Coconut Oil
If you're not already cooking with coconut oil, pick up a jar to soothe and smooth your skin. The semi-solid texture is easy to scoop up with your fingertips and works as a cleanser and makeup remover (even waterproof mascara), leaving your skin feeling super moisturized. Apply an extra layer of coconut oil after cleansing, as an alternative to night cream.
Good to Know: Coconut oil has inherent antimicrobial and antifungal benefits, which we can benefit from during cold and flu season. It's also good for diaper rashes.
-
Avocado, Mango and Papaya
Besides making an awesome smoothie and delicious snack for toddlers, these fruits also make a delicious hydrating face masque—simply mash them together with a fork and apply. Your face absorbs the oil from the avocado, and the natural acids and enzymes in the mango and papaya gently exfoliate dead skin cells.
Good to Know: Mix in 1 Tbsp. of finely ground oatmeal for a thicker texture
-
Yogurt, Honey and Baking Soda
These three ingredients blend together to make an excellent face scrub. The probiotics in yogurt help to balance the bacteria on your face, while the baking soda helps to smooth off rough skin—especially in problematic areas. Honey adds viscosity to the blend and helps to further nourish your face.
Good to Know: To increase circulation and break down cellulite in the buttock/belly/thigh area, try adding in a spoonful of ground coffee and cinnamon.

Green Tea and Apple Cider Vinegar
Say goodbye to expensive toner and hello to this simple mix. Combine three parts of brewed and cooled green tea with one part apple cider vinegar and spritz on your face after cleansing, or to refresh yourself during the day.
Good to Know: To customize the scent (and amp up the efficacy), add a few drops of a face-soothing essential oil such as Graydon's own Lavender, Chamomile, Sandalwood AromaBlend.
