What We Love About TO
Living in Hogtown means that there are plenty of options for spontaneous culture, family-friendly dining, great shopping and more. Here are our seven reasons to love Toronto.
-
Where to Get Pampered
It's fair enough to expect that any Four Seasons will do, but the spa at the Toronto flagship will introduce you to a whole new level of relaxation. Bring your swimsuit for the fabulous pool with underwater speakers.
-
Where to Eat, Anxiety Free
Parenting a highly food-allergic child means scouting out safe places for treats he or she can eat, which is why we love Kensington Natural Bakery and Cafe (note, not in Kensington Market). While the store itself is basic in its decor, the friendly owner is conscientious about the safety of all their healthy offerings, including nut-free foods and other allergens (gluten-free, dairy-free and more), and they make custom batches of goods to go if you order ahead.
-
Where to Pick Up the Perfect Gift
Beadle is a small shop full of Canadian gifts for friends, family and kids. Owner Cherie Lunau-Jokisch loves what she does, finding treasures for other people, and it shows.
-
Where to Dive Right In
Regent Park Aquatic Centre scores with everyone in the family. It's beautifully clean and very easy on the eye (amazing design). Definitely worth getting all wet for.
-
Where to Experience Culture
Celebrating nights away from the kids (and parking the yoga pants) is why we love Massey Hall, Toronto's cultural connector. Operating alongside Roy Thompson Hall, the two venues have welcomed dozens of A-list musicians, celebrities and events, and usually offer something for every age each month.
-
Where to Brighten Up
Inevitably, in the life of a parent, things
start to get a little grey—likely earlier than most of us expected. This generally requires an immediate remedy, and thanks to the colouring geniuses
at Salvatore Leonetti Salon, no one (except the colourists) are any the wiser. Now you see it, now you don't. Love that.
-
Where to Dine With the Kids
For downtown dining, The Old Spaghetti Factory has all the elements that make for successful meals with minors: 1) tons of pasta options; 2) no one blinks if you spill sauce, drinks or the babe throws her soother; 3) tons of whimsical decor for the kids to get lost
in (not literally).
