9 Fun Day Camps in Calgary
When it comes to summer, kids are kicking the door down to run out and play. These Calgary camps will have them stretching their muscles in new ways, and keep you from dashing around to find something to keep them busy.
For kids who love to ‘dash,' or are interested in learning the fundamentals of track and field, the Track Attack week-long camp is a great choice. Head Coach and creator Tara Dressler is both a national medalist and elementary teacher who wanted to create a space for kids to learn track and field skills with a focus on attaining a personal best rather than winning. No previous skills are required—just a passion for running, jumping and having fun. Even better: kids who want to continue during the school year can do so through the Calgary Track and Field (CALTAF) Cheetah's program.
Try a camp that packs some punch. At 5 Elements, future ninjas are introduced to a variety of martial arts, sparring and even some weapons training. With excursions to Fish Creek and Chinatown, we love that the kids get to dive into the art of making sushi, too. No experience is needed—just a desire to kick things up a notch. Classes are also offered year-round for all ages, and also accommodate special needs kids. We say ‘hi-ya' to that!
Kyle Shewfelt Gymnastics Camps
We love the variety of classes, so why not take a test run at one of their summer camps? Each week includes a theme and complimentary before/after care. Or try out one of their Summer Mini-Sessions in the evenings (starting from 18 months and up) for a lower price. We think that's flippin' fantastic.
The LEGO Movie has definitely inspired a new generation of builders. Keep that creativity going all through the summer at the Bricks4Kidz camps. At different locations through Calgary, and with different themes (we're lovin' the 80s Arcade idea), you'll be singing ‘Everything is Awesome' in no time.
Calgary Zoo Art Camp
Animals and art all in one? That's not abstract at all! Campers will get to enjoy all the benefits of the classic zoo camps, while getting creatively inspired by the natural elements.
Send them to university for the summer! Mount Royal University has a great collection of camp options for kids 5 and up, including Magical Adventures (read: perfect for Harry Potter fans), Movers and Shakers, Rising Stars and more. Each camp includes creative, educational activities designed to inspire.
Mad Science Summer Camps
Making robots to take home? Blasting off into space? Salt water monster trucks? If your camper is that kid who loves to pull things apart and put them back together, then embrace some scientific experiments. Mad Science camps combine wacky fun with scientific principles that will inspire young inventors.
Pure Motion Dance Camps
Do you have some tiny dancers in the house? Pure Motion Dance Studio offers themed week-long camps dedicated to Frozen and Angelina Ballerina fans. It's a cute way for little ones to get introduced to both dance and the idea of summer camp. For older kids, the Master Summer Intensive keeps them on their toes and ready for classes in the fall.
Calgary Fashion Camp
Are Coco Chanel, Giorgio Armani and Donatella Versace in your kids' vocabulary? Has your hallway become a runway? Then this summer camp is for them. Under the guidance of professional instructors, your budding designers will learn all about style, fashion, design as well as hair, make-up and modelling. There's even some yoga and photography thrown in. Say cheese!
