It’s that time of year again when miniature ghosts and goblins get ready to venture out for treats. Calgary is in full swing of Halloween events, festivals and scary adventures this weekend. So, if you’re looking for something to do with the kids, here are a few highlights of what’s going on this weekend.

The Great Big Boo!

SilverCity Cross Iron Mills (Friday to Monday – Various Times)

Combine live theater with a movie and you get The Great Big Boo! Sit back with some popcorn and treats for this musical theater Halloween event. Join several live characters and enjoy this action-packed movie with Zoe and Justin while they dance and sing while learning about the spirit of Halloween. This is a must-see for your music and movie-loving kids.

Cineplex Community Day

Various locations (Saturday from 9 am – 11 am)

Join Cineplex in Calgary this weekend for FREE movies and discounted savings on popcorn, drinks, and candy! Doors open at 9 am, no ticket is necessary but arrive early, as it can get busy quickly.

Goosebumps the Musical

Various times and dates (ages 6 and up)

Join Brooke and Zeke as they star in their school musical, The Phantom, or at least that was until they heard it was cursed. Based on the Goosebumps book #24 – Phantom of the Auditorium from R.L. Stine – this musical will no doubt keep your kids entertained with a few “Goosebumps” as they try to solve the mystery.

Hockey Games 

(Friday to Sunday)

Both the Calgary Hitmen and the Calgary Flames have home games this weekend. Watch the Hitmen take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes Friday @7 pm or Sunday versus Saskatoon Blades @4 pm. The Calgary Flames play the Washington Capitals Saturday @2 pm. All games are played at the Calgary Scotiabank Saddledome.

Halloween Markets and Festivals

Calgary Farmers Market, Airdrie Oktoberfest Festival & Enchanted Okotoks

Come out and join the Spooktacular family fun at one of these festivals this weekend. Join Calgary Farmers Market on Friday or Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm or attend the Airdrie Oktoberfest this Saturday from 9 am to 11 pm or Enchanted Okotoks this Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. Live stages, yummy food and so much more.

Heritage Park

Ghouls Night Out (Thursday to Sunday evening – various start times)

Dress up in your favourite Halloween costume and join in the family fun at Heritage Park. Storytelling, crafts, cookie decorating, ghoulish and spooky characters, games and of course don’t miss out on the family fun dance party!

Shocktober

Telus Science Centre (Monster Mash – Saturday and Sunday only)

Learn the science behind Halloween at the Telus Science Centre. For the last weekend of Shocktober, make sure you see the Monster Mash-up with friends from the Calgary Zoo with Creatures Great, Small or Creepy Curiosities, Reptiles or even Parasites! End your visit with learning Michael Jackson’s Thriller dance.

Calgary Corn Maze

Friday and Saturday evenings

Bring your flashlight for this family evening at the Calgary Corn Maze where you could lose yourself in the corn maze with only your flashlight to guide you. Come early and enjoy the other attractions at the farm like pig races, huge slides, petting zoo, train rides and so much more.

Scary Halloween Adventures for teenagers

Screamfest, Grim Manor, Field of Screams, Haunted Calgary – Various times available

For those with kids who love the scary side of Halloween, these locations are the perfect events for them. Adventures of hidden horrors, chilling experiences, ghostly figures, where hopefully a few screams will escape their throats as they walk through the dark and scary Haunted Houses.

Southcentre Mall, along with Autism Calgary, is hosting a Halloween morning on Saturday from 8:30 am to 10:30 am for ages 2-12.
