Family Day 2020 is just around the corner, and Calgary is bursting at the seams with fun things to do with your loved ones. With winter activities and festivals galore, this Family Day weekend is guaranteed to be one for the books!
Snow Rodeo (Ski and Snowboard World Cup)
Canada Olympic Park – 88 Olympic Road SW
Don’t miss your opportunity to watch some incredible winter athletes hit the halfpipe right here in Calgary as they compete in the FIS Freeski & Snowboard World Cup! Spectators are invited to check out the halfpipe and slopestyle events for free. Visit the website for the competition schedule. Calgary’s brightest winter festival is back to light up Stephen Avenue for 3 nights! Slip down an ice slide, try your hand at BATL Axe Throwing, and watch carvers create mesmerizing works of art from blocks of ice. Visit the Sugar Shack for a tasty winter treat and listen to 35 musical artists as they hit one of the three outdoor stages. Enjoy the beautiful lights as you warm up by one of the fire pits on the Ave – it’s the perfect way to spend a winter evening outside!
Bow Habitat Station Family FISHtival
February 15 from 10 am – 4 pm

There’s plenty to do both inside and out at the Bow Habitat Station to celebrate the long weekend! Join in the fun with free activities like snowshoeing, a magnetic ice fishing game, tic-tac-toe, a bean bag toss, trivia, a scavenger hunt, marshmallow roasting, a predator-pray game, fly-tying, casting practice and more. There will also be reduced admission ($5 + tax) to the Discovery Centre. This is the perfect weekend to get hooked on fishing.
Fourth Street Winterfest

Cross your fingers and hope for good weather! If Mother Nature permits, tons of outdoor fun awaits at Fourth Street Winterfest! Putt away at the 9-hole mini-golf course in Central Memorial Park, check out the penguin and snowman carnival games, and get your boogie on to some live DJ music. Don’t forget to warm up at the fire pits with a cup of hot chocolate for the first 100 attendees.
Pajama Party, Yoga and Magic at the Central Library

Get your coziest jammies on and head down to the Central Library for a PJ party that runs from 12 – 4 pm. There’ll be an all-day cartoon marathon with a breakfast cereal buffet, special storytimes, a video game tournament, magic, comedy, music and juggling performances and even some fun crafts! Kick-off your morning with a yoga class for the whole family that runs from 11 am – 12 pm.
The 6th Annual XL 103 Family Fun Skate

The new indoor Olympic Oval at the University of Calgary is open and ready for families to hit the ice! Lace up your skates and try out the fastest ice in the world as you enjoy a playlist of music from the 70s and 80s. Don’t have your own helmet or skates? No problem – they can be rented at the Olympic Oval Skate Shop. When you’re done skating, sip hot chocolate, and snap a picture with mascots from The Costume Shoppe. Don’t forget to check out the photo booth and try your hand at giant games for the whole family. This event (including the parking) is totally free, but donations to Kids Cancer Care are graciously accepted.
Reduced Admission To the Hangar Flight Museum

Calling all aviation enthusiasts! If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to check out the Hangar Flight Museum, you’ve found it. On February 17th, admission for two adults and up to four children is only $30. Spend the day gazing at some truly amazing airplanes (and if you’re lucky, you may even be able to climb in a few!)

Calgary’s favourite gaming bar is opening its doors to minors for one day only! Bring the whole family to play over 50 arcade games including classics like Pac Man, Pong, Frogger and Street Fighter, and then try your hand at Skee-Ball, Air Hockey, Pop-A-Shot Basketball, and more. Don’t worry if you get hungry – there are tons of tasty treats (and drinks for grownups) on the menu!
Break a LEGO 2020

What better way to spend Family Day than a visit to Break A LEGO 2020?! This is the perfect opportunity for LEGO lovers to show off their creations and to see the creativity of their fellow brick builders. Participants are invited to register one original LEGO creation of any theme (up to a maximum size of 2 feet by 2 feet). Winners will be announced at 11:30. Whether you’re competing or not, be sure to check out the LEGO Olympics, which is filled with fun-filled challenges and friendly competition. There will also be crafts, loose parts play, and visits from cosplay guests, as well as hot chocolate and marshmallow roasting (as long as weather permits!)
YYC Foam Wars Presents: Family Day NERF Event

Attention NERF fans aged 7 and up! Calgary’s largest NERF club is hosting a giant NERF battle you won’t want to miss! Go head to head against fellow foam-shooters at the Calgary North Soccer Centre – an indoor turfed arena that’s larger than a CFL football field. Get ready to run as you join the fun in 8-12 different games such as Capture the Flag, Humans Vs. Zombies, and more. Parents are invited to join for free alongside any paid child admission.
Family Fun Day at Eau Claire Market

Swimming prices will be discounted to $2 per child. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, be sure to check out the on-site food truck!
