Calgary Spring Break

Spring break camps are a great way to keep kids entertained whether you’re in need of childcare or you’re just trying to prevent everyone in the house from going squirrely. They also happen to be a really fun way for kids to make new friends and experience new places. In case you haven’t had a chance to check your school calendars, here are the 2020 Spring Break dates:

Public: March 27 –  April 5
Catholic/Separate: April 10 – 19

Explore your Creativity with DIY Crafts and Painting

Your budding artists will love the Maker’s Camps at Pinnovate! Children ages 5 and up are taught painting and crafting techniques while being guided by one of the studio’s resident artists. A unique and personalized DIY art project will be brought home each camp day. Don’t worry if you did this camp last year, this year’s project lineup is all brand new.

Camps will be running for 3 weeks, March 23-27, March 30-April 3rd, and April 13th-April 17th. There is a maximum cap of 15 campers per session. The Weekly cost is $260 for camp 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Register at pinnovate.ca

Good to know: Lunch is included in the camp fees and includes gluten-free and vegan options.

It’s Fun to Stay at the YMCA

The YMCA camps are a fun smorgasbord of kids’ activities including sports activities, swimming, songs, art, games and both indoor/outdoor play. Some camps even include formal swimming lessons. Spring break camps are running at all eight YMCA locations in Calgary from March 23-27 and April 12-17 so, regardless of where you live in the city, you can be sure to find a location reasonably close by. Plus, free before and after camp care (beginning at 7:30 am and ending at 5:30 pm) is available for children ages 3 to 13 years old who are attending YMCA day camps. ymcacalgary.org

Good to know: The YMCA camps are also available on a daily basis to accommodate the needs of families who might not want to commit to a full week of day camp.

Hip Hop Your Way Through Spring Break 

Pulse Studios

Learn the art (and history) of Breaking, Popping, Locking, Hip Hop, Choreography and House at centrally located PULSE Studios. Spring break camps are being offered for kids ages 8-12 years and 12 years and up from March 23 – 27 only. The dance camp week ends with a studio sharing, where friends and family are invited to see a showcase of the campers and what they learned during their time at the studio. Try A Little Bit of Everything at City of Calgary Camps

The City of Calgary has a variety of Spring Break programs available for kids aged 5-12 at the Southland Leisure Centre, Village Square Leisure Centre, The Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre, and the Calgary Soccer Centre. Day Camps run during both school breaks and are jam-packed with activities like arts, crafts, gym time, electronics, movies, and outdoor play. Some camps may even include an off-trip to a local park, special guest visits, swimming and water activities. For kids who want to spend the week focused on soccer or skating, targeted camps are also available. Tumble, Bounce and get your ‘Gymnastics-on’

Burn some Energy at Kyle Shewfelt Gymnastics’ where your 4-12-year-olds can participate in a full line up of gymnastics (structured circuits and free time), crafts, snacks, games, scavenger hunts, and dancing! There are plenty of care options available between March 23 – 27, including full days, half days, and even single days (single day availability is limited). Good to know: Special early bird pricing is available until March 1. Also, additional children from the same family receive a 5% discount.

Experiment the Week Away

TELUS Spark is a wonderful facility inspiring all things ‘science’.  With fun camp themes like ‘All About Animals’, ‘Spark Science Superheroes’, ‘Mission Projectile’, ‘Budding Botanists’, ‘Fashion Design’ and ‘Lego and Clay Stop Motion Animation’, your kids are sure to feel inspired by the fascinating hands-on activities and experiments they’ll get to try. In addition, campers also receive supervised gallery exploration time as well as admission to a Dome Theatre show. Complimentary before and after camp care is available beginning at 8:00 am and ending at 5:00 pm. Camps are offered during the March 23-27 break as well as the April 13-17 break.  sparkscience.ca

Calling all Junior Zoo-Keepers

The Calgary Zoo is offering spring break camps for children in grades one through six, and working parents will appreciate the extended before/after camp times beginning at 7:30 am and ending at 5:00 pm (additional fees do apply for both of these options). Their programming line up includes natural world themed activities, games, crafts, stories, interpretive programs and animal visits (all camps include an opportunity to meet &/or touch a smaller animal).  calgaryzoo.com

Good to know: Want a break from making lunches? Don’t miss selecting the ‘lunch option’ when you register. It’s available for $74.75/week. Also, don’t forget, Engage and Inspire Members receive a 10% discount off of camps.

Sport Camps – Get Coached!

Sportball is a high-energy program that includes fun and exciting games along with skill-based sports play. This is a perfect program for active kids, ages 3-9 years, or kids who are easily bored. Preschoolers learn sports-skills appropriate for their developmental ability, while school-aged kids are offered a program that encourages natural athleticism. Check Out Camps For Kids From Grades 1-12 At SAIT

There is literally something for everyone at SAIT’s Spring Break camps. Whether your camper is interested in sports, literacy, science or superheroes, kids from grades 1-6 are sure to have a blast at SAIT’s themed camps. For kiddos who love learning in a hands-on way, there are also STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) camps that incorporate experiments, coding and more. For kids in grades 7-12, there’s even a camp where aspiring welders can learn to use a MIG welder to learn a variety of techniques that will help them to create the skeleton of a dinosaur! sait.ca

Good to know: Complimentary before and after care is available from 7:30-9:00 am and 4:00-5:30 pm. There is also a lunch program available at an additional cost.
