The weather is starting to chill, but it’s not quite time to hibernate yet. The city is full of excitement this weekend, from Flames Fan days to the Central Library Grand Opening. All these events are family friendly and a great way to spend some quality time in the city.

#LoveYYC Day

November 3, 2018

November 3rd is #LoveYYC Day, a day where Calgarians get to enjoy what makes our city so amazing. Some of our local businesses are offering discounts or freebies in and around the city throughout the day. Check out the LoveYYC website for details on where you can find a local business to support and share the YYC love. Events include anything from free tours & tastings of gelato to 50% off admission to Fort Calgary or discounts on dinner. Don’t forget to share your thoughts and images of why you #loveyyc through Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat! YYC Transit will also be providing free transit from 7 am to 7 pm as part of the LoveYYC celebrations.

Central Library Grand Opening

Thursday, November 1 to Sunday, November 4

The day has finally come and what a better way to celebrate our city then the opening of our new Central Library. Opening ceremonies begin Thursday at 10 am with live music by Dixieland band and roving performers. Enjoy hot chocolate, free tours, special activities, Pied Piper story times, demonstrations, live music and other events throughout the celebration. This is a great place to take your kids, as they will be hosting events all weekend long.

Festival of Crafts

Thursday, November 1 to Sunday, November 4

If you’re ready for a day of holiday shopping or want to get some holiday crafting ideas, head to the BMO Centre at Stampede Park. The weekend agenda is filled with local artists and designers showcasing their talents and homemade products. Check out the giant colouring wall or enter to win some amazing prizes including the grand prize of a trip to Toronto! Sneak in a few yummy treats among the shopping, a great way to get into the holiday spirit. You can also check out the Eau Claire night market on November 2nd, or the Bowness Craft Fair or McKenzie Towne Craft Fair on Saturday, November 3 for other holiday shopping.

Calgary Flames Red Rally

November 4, 2018

Showcase your love for the Calgary Flames! This Sunday, players and fans join together for an afternoon of fun. Meet some players, grab an autograph from James Neal, Mike Smith or Matthew Tkachuk. The festival starts at 11 am and runs until 4 pm at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Bring your camera and share your fan support with #redrally this weekend. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

Enjoy a Hockey Game

Both the Calgary Hitmen and the Calgary Flames have home games this weekend. Watch the Hitmen take on the Medicine Hat Tigers Friday @7 pm or Saturday versus Red Deer Rebels @1:30 pm. The Calgary Flames play Chicago Blackhawks Saturday @8 pm. All games are being played at the Calgary Scotiabank Saddledome.
