Week one is already wrapping up for back-to-schoolers and we happily raise a glass to the return of the routine.
Junior’s teacher will cover the 3 R’s (Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic?) but may skim over the artier pursuits like music and drama. Thankfully, we know how to add a slice of fine art to your child’s education and it is easy and fun for the whole family.

Storybook Theater has a solid reputation for creating quality family theatre with plays for children of all ages. Cookie Cabaret focuses on preschoolers aged 3 to 6 and Adventure Theatre aims at 6 to 12 year olds.

The 2008 Cookie Cabaret season kicks off on September 19 with a performance of The Fisherman & His Wife. Plays are based upon traditional stories and fairy tales. Performances range from 45 minutes to a maximum of an hour with no intermission. Children are invited to participate in the performance as sound effects, scenery and even characters. Parents need to stay for the performance (and why not?) but hang back on chairs while the kids enjoy festival seating on bean bags center stage. Performances take place Fridays at 7 pm and on the weekends at 12:30 and 3 pm. Enjoy the piece de resistance cookies baked by volunteers at the Cookie Cabaret commercial kitchen served to audience members following the performance (grown ups included).

The season runs until mid March and tickets cost $13.55 per person or subscribe to all four plays for only $37.40.
