Calgary Moms, Here’s How to Keep Them Entertained All Break

How to Keep Them Entertained All Break

So, you’re about halfway there. Is cabin fever creeping in yet?

We’re here to help you either make the most of this holiday break, or get through it in one piece—depending on your outlook.

Not up for braving the cold? There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the Great Indoors. Cozy up with a book (one for them, one for you, and one to read together), do some baking (here are four easy kid-friendly recipes), play a board game (our faves for kids both young and old), or a make a fun craft. Make the most of it by turning it into a friendly competition, and just enjoy the moment.

If the kids are going stir-crazy and you all need to get out of the house, then hit the slopes (and take a lesson), go tobogganing at one of the best hills in town, or take refuge at an indoor playground and let the kids blow off some steam.

Still looking for more? Check out a few of these wonderful events on around town:

Flurry of Fun at Bow Habitat Station. Until December 23
There’s games, prizes, investigations stations, and above all the chance to get hands-on with learning about Alberta’s inter wildlife.

Slipper: A Distinctly Calgarian Story, at the Martha Cohen Theatre. Until December 31
A modern tale for modern kids—there are no princes and princesses here. Cinderella is now a young go-getter who catches the eye of one young Eddie Prince, and the evil stepsisters will stop at nothing to win the Stampede talent show.
Starting at $25.

Winter Carnival at Confederation Park. December 29, 5-9 pm.
There will be food, drink, kids’ activities, photo ops, a light display, and a full marketplace. Come out and enjoy a full bustling market in the heart of winter.
$2 admission, which benefits the non-profit Own It Institute of Canada.
