It’s hard to believe that it’s already August! The good news is, there’s still tons of fun family activities in Calgary to be had for the remainder of summer, and a lot of that fun can be had for free! If you’re a fan of festivals, food, and warm summer days, Calgary is the place to be this August!

Tour de Bowness |
August 1

It’s a Street Festival! It’s a Bike Race! It’s a little bit of both, and it’s totally free. Since the community of Bowness celebrated its 100th birthday in 2011, the Bowness Community Association and Bow Cycle have partnered to bring this family friendly event to life almost every year. Approximately 300 cyclists will be ready to race in the largest amateur cycling event in Alberta. Spectators are invited to cheer on the competitors, enjoy food trucks and dance along to live bands on the Tim Hortons Stage.

Taste of Calgary |
August 4-7

This is one event you’ll want to arrive hungry for! Taste of Calgary is back, bringing the best bites in the city to the fine folks of YYC for its 23rd year. Purchase sampling tickets for $1 a piece and take advantage of your chance to try a bite or two from all of the local restaurants you’ve been dying to try! Live music will be playing throughout the day, so don’t forget your dancing shoes!

Calgary Dragon Boat Festival |
August 5-7

Come for the Dragon Boats and stay for the party! In addition to bringing almost 2000 competitors to the Glenmore Reservoir for the Calgary Dragon Boat Festival, North Glenmore Park will also host a Kids Zone, live music, food trucks, merchants, a family-friendly beer garden and multicultural entertainment. Bicycle parking is available on site and free festival parking and shuttle services are available from Mount Royal University.

Marda Gras Street Festival |
August 14

The community of Marda Loop is ready to rock at 2022’s edition of Marda Gras! Street

performers, music, dancing and magic will be ready to entertain Calgarians of all ages at this pedestrian-friendly street festival. Check out the wares of local vendors, visit the kids’ fun area, and don’t miss the pet pageant where adorable furry friends will be dressed to impress on stage!

GlobalFest |
August 18 – 27

GlobalFest is an annual event celebrating Calgary’s multicultural communities with performances, delicious food, live music, night markets, and incredible fireworks displays. This year’s nightly fireworks presentations will be produced by pyro musical artists from India, Austria, France, Germany and Canada. Tickets can be purchased for individual dates for $21 + fees, or a 5 day GlobalPass can be purchased for $74 + fees if one day just isn’t enough! Children 5 and under are free.

Chinatown Street Festival |
August 20

Over 35 000 people come to enjoy the Chinatown Street Festival each year, and 2022 marks the 19th annual celebration of food, music, dance and more. Visit over 40 tents showcasing fantastic merchandise, food and cultural experiences. Don’t forget to take in the live performances and stop by the kids fun zone!

Priddis and Millarville Fair |
August 20-21

Are you looking for some good old fashioned family fun? We’re talking pie auctions and pie eating contests, hay rides, mechanical bulls, live farm animal visits, friendly competitions, colorful ribbons and more. If this sounds like your idea of a good time, be sure to add the Priddis and Millarville Fair to your calendar! The Fair was founded in 1907 and continues to entertain folks of all ages today, with over 4000 bench entries including exhibitors, contests, competitions and displays. Best of all, all activities and attractions are free once you pass through the gate!

Calgary Pride Flea Market |
August 28

Head down to Bridgeland Riverside Community Park (also known as Murdoch Park) between 1 and 5 pm on August 28 to check out the second annual Calgary Pride Flea Market. Visit booths from incredible local businesses while celebrating pride with music, a Drag Show performance, and the LGBTQ+ business community in Calgary.

Red Bull Outliers |
August 27 – 28

Spectators are invited to take in this free, two day event which showcases Canada’s largest Hard Enduro motocross race both in downtown Calgary and the Canadian Badlands.The downtown portion of the race kicks off at 11 am on August 27th for 3 rounds of racing and the finals will run from 4 to 5 pm.

Calgary Medieval Faire and Artisan Market |
August 26 – 28

The Calgary Medieval Faire and Artisan Market is back and better than ever! Get your medieval gear on and head to the Wild Wild West Event Center to take in the action, including vendors and interactive displays, magic, music and stories, weird and wonderful performances, authentic costumes and decor, delicious food and more! Kids under 7 are free, seniors and kids 7-12 are $10 and folks 13 and up are $12 at the gate. Save $2 by purchasing tickets in advance!
