What To Do in Ottawa in March

Ottawa March Break Ideas_feature

March is a busy month in the Ottawa area, primarily because families across the city will be celebrating March Break at various times (depending on your child’s school board you’ll see March Break happening from March 2-6 and March 16-20). As March Break activities are happening, sugar shacks are getting into full swing, and winter weather activities continue to thrill snow-loving families, there are still so many other events not to miss!

If you are looking for a unique, exciting or new opportunity as a family or something just the kids will enjoy doing this month, we’ve created a list of upcoming March activities and events in the Ottawa area.

Artissimo at the National Gallery

Usually, the popular (and creative) Artissiomo activities at the National Gallery of Canada only happen on the weekend, but from March 2-8, and again on March 14-22, Artissimo is welcoming March Breakers and their families for hands-on artistic experiences. This is a part of your museum admission too!

Kids Market

The Kids Market returns on March 22 at the Ottawa Farmers’ Market (Lansdowne) from 10 am until 3 pm. Bring the kids and shop the booths of local kid entrepreneurs and makers, listen to music and participate in activities. Full details can be found on their Facebook page.

Art Haven Kids Night Out

Sorry parents, this event is just for the kids! Art Haven is hosting a Kids Night Out on March 27. Kids ages 6 and older will paint on a 12×12 canvas (supplies and instruction will be provided) and enjoy pizza and juice for supper. The event requires advance registration and is from 6 until 8:30 pm.

Sky High Magic

On Sunday, March 8, Sky High Magic continues at the Canada Space and Aviation Museum with two showtimes (11 am and 1 pm). This is a special ticketed event (separate from your museum admission) and you’ll be dazzled and tickled while watching magic and science explode together for illusions and tricks the entire family will love.

Dad Jokes Duo Concert

Tired of hearing the same children’s music over and over again? Dad Jokes Duo were too, and as musicians, they started their own comedy and musical act that both kids and parents can enjoy. On March 22, join them for one of their two concerts (1 pm and 3 pm) at Whiprsnapr Brewing in Ottawa’s West End. Grab your tickets before they sell out!

International Women’s Day & The Paper Bag Princess

On March 7th at various Indigo Chapters locations, there will be a special International Women’s Day event featuring the Paper Bag Princess. Join in for a special storytime and activities. Supplies are limited and it’s best to call the store for details (South Keys and Pinecrest will be hosting this event).

Glow Skate

Grab your helmets and skates and get ready for a skating excursion unlike any other at Glow Skate on March 14th (11 am until 12:30 pm). Save some money by purchasing your tickets (individual or family passes) ahead of time, or else grab them at the door (so long as the event hasn’t sold out). Details about this event at the RA Centre can be found on their Facebook page.

Disney on Ice

The popular Disney on Ice returns to delight families with their amazing on-ice performances set to the soundtrack of your childhood (and your children’s favourite tunes). Enjoy a matinee or evening show from March 12 to 15. Characters from The Little Mermaid, Cars, Toy Story 3 and of course Mickey and Minnie themselves will be performing. Grab your tickets on the Canadian Tire Centre website.

Barbie Play Day at Toys r Us

Join in a special Barbie Athlete play day at Toys r Us locations on Saturday, March 7 (11 am until 1 pm) where kids can decorate their own Barbie sports pennant plus enjoy other Barbie activities. This is a first-come, first-served event for the first 50 pennants being crafted. For more details visit the Toys r Us website.
