Our favourite plant shop in town is Laporte Flowers and Nursery in Orleans. Their central, shaded children’s playground is the perfect place to blow off a little steam before loading up your cart’choose from all kinds of flowers, ferns and veggies. When you’ve debated your way to a complete garden, have the staff help with their drive-through loading service’perfect for tired parents and kids. And if you really want to make it a visit to the nursery for the whole family, bring your pet along too’dog treats are always on hand.
In the west end, the best nursery for families is Creekside Gardens, located just south of Richmond. Besides a huge selection of flowers, vegetables, fruits and herbs, Creekside offers art workshops for children and a great Fairy Garden class for the whole family. On Sundays, their farmers’ market sells ready-for-the-table bounty, or pick up some preserves and fudge in their shop as a farewell treat on any day of the week.
