A Dad’s World

Dad and Son Fishing

Superdad is deserving of super things, so shake out his cape and buzz around Vancouver this Father’s Day, Sunday June 15 (spandex is optional).

After brushing the breakfast crumbs from his bed, check out your nearest Car Free Day festival. Not only are they free of cars, they are free (period) and high on entertainment. From roller derby demonstrations to fashion shows to food trucks, let Dad lead the charge. Main Street, Commercial Drive, Kitsilano and the West End all host these smorgasbords of fun, but our favourite is Main Street, which is expanding to twenty-one blocks of zaniness this year.

Men are attracted to fishing like, well, fish are to water, so it’s no coincidence that the BC Family Fishing Weekend falls on Father’s Day weekend. Take your brood to one of our favourite local lakes—Rice Lake and Como Lake—because they’re perfect shore fishing for our littlest anglers. They’re offering fishing demonstrations and have volunteers on hand to offer advice, so if Dad’s not an expert on baiting hooks, he doesn’t need to pretend.

A boy can dream. Take Dad to the Dundarave Porsche Show in West Vancouver and let him drool over the shiny array of vintage and new Porsche’s on display.

Since the way to every Dad’s heart is through his stomach, visit his favourite food cart. For the best sandwich in the city, hit Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck (by the Vancouver Art Gallery) and then hit your nearest beach for a picnic. Don’t forget to stock the cooler with his favourite beverage.

On Father’s Day, it’s okay to say it’s a Dad’s world.

Get ready to spoil Dad. We’ve got Fab Father’s Day Gifts, just for him.
