Sure, school is back in session for students across Ottawa in September (and for some, the end of August), but that doesn’t mean families can’t continue to take advantage of the warm summer weather and family fun in Ottawa in September before the fall weather officially joins us.
The days may be getting shorter, but that won’t stop us!
We’ve rounded up these events and activities for family fun in Ottawa in September that we think you’ll love:
Shakespeare in the Park
A Company of Fools is returning to parks in and around the Ottawa area September 2-25 for an outdoor performance of Love from Afar. Enjoy professional theatre outside in your neighbourhood park (you can find the entire location list on their website). Tickets (by donation, with a recommended donation of $20 per person) are available online for each location and tickets must be purchased in advance for admission to the performance.
Their website also offers information about social distancing and spacing your chairs/blankets when you arrive and more pandemic restrictions.
The Ottawa Redblacks are returning for another season and fans will be welcomed into the stadium during their home games (with Covid restrictions in place). There’s no better family fun in Ottawa in September than a CFL game! You’ll find tickets for the Redblacks’ three September games against Montreal, Hamilton, and Edmonton, respectively, on sale now. Their August 28th home opener marks the first time the team has played at TD Place here in Ottawa since November 2019!
Buy your tickets (regular seating options or social distance seating) on their website.
Up, Up, and Away!
The Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival is back for another high-flying adventure from September 2-6. Visit the festival to enjoy live music, hot air balloon rides, or other special family-friendly programming. Early risers may want to check out musical matinees to watch balloons take off at sunrise while musical performances wake you up to a new day. These morning events are on September 4th and 5th only and begin at 6:45 am. Purchase your event tickets online.
Eat Cotton Candy & Enjoy the Rides at the Fair
The long-running Carp Fair is a staple for family fun in Ottawa in September. It’s been welcoming families since 1863 and is once again setting up their amusement park games, rides, and fair food stalls from September 24-26 in Carp (just west of Ottawa). There aren’t currently a lot of events details available but keep visit their Facebook page or website for ticket and event information as it is shared.
Howl at the Moon
Have you been to Parc Omega at Night? While we know all about how much fun and interactive it is to feed the elks and deer at Parc Omega, explore the farm, and connect with nature during their daytime admission, we are enchanted to learn the Parc comes alive in a different way at night (but only until October 9th).
The sound and light show is a 1.5 km walking trail at Land of the Pioneers. Tickets are available for select evenings this fall.
Go on an Adventure
The Ottawa Public Library is offering a virtual mini Dungeons and Dragons session for kids aged 8-12 for four weeks in September. This adventure is only open to six registrants at a time and registration begins September 1. Find out more information on their website.
Go on a Bike Ride
Grab your bicycle helmets and head out on a biking adventure during the NCC Weekend Bike Days (until October 11th). This year, both Saturday and Sundays were dedicated as bike days with road closures on various parkways and roads to accommodate for bikes only. Find out which locations are available during Weekend Bike Days on their website.
