February might be the shortest month of the year but that doesn’t mean that it’s a quiet one. We’ve got Black History Month, Lunar New Year, and of course Family Day, which — depending on where your kid goes to school — may be part of a four-day weekend.

This month is filled with exciting activities for families in Toronto, from winter festivals and Family Day celebrations to dazzling light displays and interactive exhibits. Below we round up some activities and events in Toronto in February that are sure to entertain your family and keep a smile on everyone’s face, despite the chilly, unpredictable weather.

Lumière: The Art of Light

When: Monday February 16 to Friday March 27
Where: Trillium Park at Ontario Place

Lumière: The Art of Light is a free outdoor light exhibition showcasing bold and imaginative works by talented Ontario-based artists across diverse disciplines. This year’s theme is “Rhythms of Light: Motion, Sound, and Time.” Explore the magic where light and art converge.

Kids Fest TO

When: Saturday February 14 – Monday February 16
Where: International Centre, Mississauga

Kids Fest TO is three days of non-stop fun with over thirty themed inflatables, jumping castles, interactive games, slides, obstacle courses, and more. Laugh, play, and create unforgettable memories with live stage shows, pony rides, carnival games, prizes, delicious food, and surprises around every corner. This is a playground for kids of all ages. There are toddler playcentres, family-friendly mini putt, and excitement games for thrill seekers.

Canadian International AutoShow – Family Fun Zone

When: Friday February 13 – Sunday February 22
Where: Metro Toronto Convention Centre, 255 Front Street W

Rev up your engines at the Family Fun Zone, one of the cool features at the 2026 Canadian International AutoShow, featuring LEGO Canada’s full-size 1950s plus a LEGOLAND Discovery Centre retail store, a Kids Play Zone with building activities, and additional LEGO creations on display.

Children & Youth Art Programs at the AGO

When: Throughout February
Where: AGO, 317 Dundas Street West

The AGO offers courses and workshops in a fun and supportive environment encouraging young artists (ages 2-18) the freedom to explore their potential, build confidence, and develop artmaking and critical thinking skills. Students have the unique opportunity to learn from Artist Instructors, who are practicing studio artists and experienced educators. The approach is student led and focused on traditional and contemporary artmaking techniques and concepts. Courses can be taken multiple times and are for all skill levels. The instructor will teach each student’s individual skill level.

Family Day at the Gibson House Museum

When: Saturday February 14 – Monday February 16
Where: Gibson House Museum

Step back in time and experience life in the 1800s at the Gibson House Museum! Kids can participate in crafts, games, and hands-on heritage activities.

The Model Railroad Club of Toronto – Family Day Celebration

When: Sunday February 15 and Monday February 16
Where: Model Railroad Club of Toronto, 11 Curity Ave.

See an intricate world of model trains come to life! This interactive exhibit at the Model Railroad Club of Toronto is perfect for train enthusiasts and curious young minds.

Family Day at the Toronto Zoo

When: Friday February 13 – Sunday February 15
Where: Toronto Zoo, 2000 Meadowvale Rd.

Two big events are taking place at the Toronto Zoo on Family Day weekend! First is Love at the Zoo kids edition where you can celebrate love by treating the children in your life to a pancake breakfast with some of the Zoo’s animal ambassadors and learn why we love all animals, even if at first, we might think they are gross, smelly, or cheeky! The cost is $28 and that is in addition to Zoo admission (must be purchased separately, no member discount.)

And Gabby from the hit series Gabby’s Dollhouse, known for her magical cat ears and love of all things feline, is visiting the Toronto Zoo for a special meet-and-greet on Family Day Weekend. Families are invited to join Gabby for a fun-filled day of smiles, photos, and purr-fectly magical moments. It’s a great way to make your Family Day weekend extra memorable, with special giveaways including special Valentine’s giveaways on February 14. Free with Zoo admission, visit the Special Events Centre to meet Gabby, learn about different cat species from around the world at the Toronto Zoo, and meet some of the Zoo’s special animal guests.

Black History Month Family Events

Celebrate Black History Month at the Toronto Public Library with storytelling events, cultural performances, and art workshops across Toronto.

The Royal Ontario Museum

Where: Royal Ontario Museum, 100 Queens Park

There’s always something fun and educational happening at the ROM and this February is no exception. Fossil Quest is a scavenger hunt like no other where you’ll travel through time on a prehistoric adventure. From the first fierce predators to the mighty giants of the late Cretaceous, you’ll uncover dinosaur facts, solve ancient puzzles, and test your paleontology skills with your team of family and friends. So channel your inner explorer, and race through millions of years of history on Sunday February 1, Saturday February 21, and Sunday February 22. Meet your ROM Host on Level 1, Chen Court, in front of the Futalognkosaurus and there’s a hunt fee of $5 in addition to Museum Admission.

Make it double dinosaur fun on Saturday February 21 with Guild of Immortals: Dinosaurs. Enjoy hands‑on crafts, examining specimens, dinosaur puzzles, and a special Ontario Science Centre pop‑up. And unleash your inner dinosaur with face painting and dino‑themed dress‑up.

Ongoing Winter Fun in Toronto

Winter Skating at Nathan Phillips Square

Where: Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen Street W.

Lace up your skates and enjoy Toronto’s most famous outdoor rink at Nathan Phillips Square — complete with twinkling lights and a lively atmosphere.

The Bentway Skate Trail

When: Until Monday February 16
Where: The Bentway, 250 Fort York Blvd.

Skate along this 220m figure-eight loop under the Gardiner Expressway. The Bentway is free to skate and free skate rentals on select nights!
