5 Ways to Look Impeccable While Nursing in the Summer

Fashionable Mom Breastfeeding

When you’€™re nursing, dressing for practicality becomes the number one priority. I’€™ve worked with many women who confide that they feel like they’ve lost themselves post-baby, so know that you’€™re not alone. But there is relief from this feeling, and having a few feel-good outfits can be that bit of relief you’€™re craving.

Don’€™t get me wrong, I’€™m not saying to throw the ‘boob’ shirts out the window’€”that would just be silly. But some days, when you’€™re heading out into the world and want to feel a sense of self, these nursing-friendly style options will help you do just that.

  1. Nursing tank + any top you like: when I was nursing this was my go-to. I found it easy to throw any well-loved top over my nursing tanks. When my little one needed to eat I would whip the shirt I was wearing off to feed, still feeling fully covered by the tank.
  2. Nursing bra (or cross-over sports bra) + extremely loose-fitting top: if pulling your shirt off in public feels funny, you could try this tweaked version of the first option. Instead of pulling your shirt off you can just slide baby under your shirt.
  3. Jumpsuit: Button-down dresses are a great option, but a button-down jumpsuit adds instant style appeal. You look super stylish when all you really did is slip on one piece while running out the door.
  4. Peek-a-boo print: prints + kids = pure bliss. Printed and patterned clothing hide stains like a dream. So those little bits of who-knows-what are your secret to keep! Choose a print that you love in a button-down or cross-over style for easy nursing access.
  5. Having your cake (and eating it too): ok, I can hear you thinking, ‘but I want looking good to be as easy as possible’. Here’€™s how: when you go to buy a nursing top you’€™re going to wear day in and day out, ask yourself  ‘€œwould I wear this if I wasn’€™t nursing?’€. It may be a tough search, but you’€™ll be thrilled when you find that perfect-for-you piece. There are some goodies at Au Lait, Annee Matthew, and Seraphine.
