Taught abs, tight buns, a graceful demeanor—what’s not to envy about ballet dancers? Fortunately, barre classes have swept the city and provide much of the fitness benefits in bite-size hour long classes. Trouble is, few of the city’s barre studios sport childcare, so making it to class can be harder than stretching out your hamstrings. That’s why we’re thrilled Barre Body Studio offers drop in classes for mama and baby all summer long.
Throughout the year, this multi-location studio operates a post-natal Mommy and Me barre class—registration required. But, until September 7 they’re offering drop-in classes meant for moms and babes (7-months and younger), so long as baby is safely nestled in a carrier.
Don’t have a background in dance? Don’t worry! While the class does incorporate some moves from traditional ballet (think deep plies and calf raises), much of the class is about light free weights, and mat exercises. It may not look all that hard, but trust us, you’ll feel it the next day! It’s a gentle, low-impact way to get back into shape while working your postpartum core and pelvic floor.
Classes take place Tuesdays at their Ramsay studio from 10:45-11:35 am (free valet parking!) and Wednesday from 1:15-2:05 pm at Bow Trail.
