The Best Family Brunch Spots in Ottawa

Best Family Brunch Spots in Ottawa

One of our favourite times to dine out with the kids is at brunch. We always know they’ll find something they love (who doesn’t love brunch menu options?) and parents and kids alike can savour a leisurely, extended mid-morning meal together. This bonding time, especially on the weekends, is appreciated by everyone. From buffets to table service to quick bites, we’ve rounded up a few delicious brunch options to try in the city.

Local Public Eatery

Found at the popular Lansdowne Park, Local Public Eatery boasts a menu that is far from your regular bacon and eggs for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. With exciting choices like the delicious huevos rancheros, we love that after brunch you can make plans to visit the Farmers’ Market on Sundays or take the kids to the park and water feature at Lansdowne. |

Tucker’s Marketplace

When some family members want to go for breakfast, and others want to go for lunch, head to Tuckers Marketplace—their weekend brunch buffet will please everyone. We love the main course options, but the homemade dessert selections (brownies, bread pudding and more) make our mouths water. Plus, it’s located right in the Byward Market. A walk to Parliament Hill may be in order after everyone has eaten. |

Stella Luna

If you are looking for a casual setting with delicious choices like crepes, waffles and scones, try Stella Luna on Bank Street. We love that every time we go, we see plenty of babies and little ones—this spot is a warm, welcoming place for families. And speaking of warm, if you’re brunching during the summer months, there’s cool gelato on-site to indulge in for a little post-brunch dessert. |

Big Rig Kitchen and Brewery

If your family is looking for a larger brunch place that can accommodate plenty of people with tasty food, take everyone to Big Rig. There are two locations in the city (Pinecrest, near IKEA, and the Gloucester Centre) and while the menu includes the regular brunch fare like pancakes (which we know are kid favourites), it’s hard not to want to try something a bit more savoury like the Turkey Dinner Waffle Sandwich.  Plus, if you go later in the day for brunch, their local brew just hits the spot for mom and dad. |

Spin Kitchen and Bar

Located in the downtown Ottawa Marriott Hotel, Spin Kitchen and Bar serves brunch seven days a week, and you don’t have to be a guest of the hotel to dine. Whether it’s a la carte or the buffet brunch, the menu options will appeal to the entire family. We love that as an added bonus, families who enjoy their meal at Spin are invited to the gaming rooms (for kids and teens) located in the hotel.  With video games, basketball, air hockey and more, everyone will love it. |

Flap Jacks

If you haven’t tried Flap Jacks yet, you don’t know what you’re missing! The kids will be flipping out for these tasty items. Beyond the fluffy, delicious pancakes they serve (loved by parents and kids alike), their entire menu is enticing with sweet, savoury options. You can go for brunch at any time (they are open 7 days a week, from 8 am until 11 pm)—just one reason we love it. And, with a menu that includes omelettes, panwiches (pancake sandwiches of course!) and battered bacon, it’s hard to resist. |

Café Latte Cino

We love that we can usually say hi to the owners while we are in this east-end café. Customers are always chatting and happy (maybe it’s because the coffee is delicious) and the breakfast and brunch food make us drool. Parents may want to indulge in the waffle sandwich that has eggs and sausages between waffle halves (with syrup on the side), but our kids always go for the gelato-topped waffles. The hardest decision will be deciding which kind of gelato to choose. |

Zak’s Diner

At both Zak’s Diner locations in Ottawa (Byward Market and Kanata) they serve breakfast all day long, so taking the kids to brunch has never been easier. Their kids’ menu includes pancakes, French toast and a classic scrambled egg breakfast. Parents, you’ll be happy to know bottomless coffee comes with your breakfast. |

OCCO Kitchen

Locally-owned OCCO Kitchen is serving up delicious breakfast bites at both of their locations and you’ll want to keep returning to try all of their menu offerings like pancakes or their AM poutine, and to indulge in their from-scratch bread. The Orleans OCCO Kitchen offers breakfast and brunch on the weekends only but the downtown location cooks up their breakfast menu every day of the week (and they even make their own donuts!). |
