It seems like the words brunch and Calgarian go hand in hand, and with all of the awesome restaurant options available in YYC, it’s easy to see why. If you’re looking for great family brunch restaurants, we’ve got you covered with our list of places to get kid-friendly brunch to-go in Calgary.
Thomson’s Kitchen + Bar
112 8 Avenue SE (inside the Hyatt)
Brunch Hours – Sundays from 10 am – 2 pm
Our family recently had the opportunity to check out the brunch menu offered at Thomson’s Kitchen + Bar, located inside the Hyatt. There were lots of tasty brunch options for anyone with a larger appetite, and the kids’ menu offered a variety of choices for $6. The portion sizes were perfect for our little ones, who enjoyed every bite! Even if you aren’t a guest of the hotel, Thomson’s Kitchen + Bar is a great place to get brunch on Sundays from 10-2!
3 Locations – Bridgeland, Mahogany, and Aspen Woods
Breakfast/Brunch Hours – Open (hours vary) – 3 pm
Diner Deluxe’s Aspen location comes highly recommended by parents! All three locations offer kids’ menus for guests 12 and under that include everything from classic cold cereal to French toast, breakfast sandwiches and more. All kids’ menu items are under $10. They have an extensive menu for grownups including classics like eggs benedict, omelettes, and huevos rancheros, as well as mouth-watering items like fried chicken and waffles and stuffed French toast.
The Bro’Kin Yolk
3 locations – Creekside, Signal Hill and Mahogany
Breakfast/Brunch Hours – Daily from 7:30 am – 3 pm
There are so many reasons to love Bro’Kin Yolk, and their incredible food is an obvious place to start. Aside from mouth-watering grownup menu items like their Eggs Benny, Breakfast Poutine and Breakfast Classics like Chicken & Waffles, they also have a great value Kids’ Menu with brunch and lunch options.
3 locations – Bridgeland, Downtown, Mission
Breakfast/Brunch Hours – Open 7 am – 2:45 pm daily at Bridgeland and Mission locations; Open 6:30 am – 2 pm M-F and 8 am – 2:45 pm on weekends downtown
If you haven’t had a chance to visit OEB for breakfast, you’ll definitely want to add this Calgary staple to your list. With a monster menu filled with more options than you can shake a fork at, your biggest challenge will probably be deciding between savoury or sweet. The good news is, whatever you pick, it’s all delicious!
2 locations – Sunridge Mall, Northland Village
Breakfast/Brunch Hours – Monday – Saturday from 6 am – 3 pm, Sundays from 7 am – 3 pm
Cora’s is a breakfast spot popular with kids and parents alike thanks to their pretty plate presentations, generous portion sizes and delicious food. Cora has menu options created for kids 12 and under in addition to their “Teen’s Favourites” and regular menu items. Cora’s also offers a loyalty program where you can collect points to help save money on future breakfast visits! If you’re having a hard time deciding, their crepes are a classic!
4 Locations – North Hill, Forest Lawn, 11 Avenue, and Glenmore Trail
Breakfast Hours – Daily from open (varies by location) – 8 pm
Phil’s is a classic breakfast restaurant that families love because Phil’s love families! Pancakes, crepes, waffles, french toast, eggs, bacon, sausages and more are all on the menu at totally reasonable prices.
Earls Kitchen + Bar
Brunch Hours – Weekends from open – 2 pm
We recently discovered that most Earls locations have a “Brunch Happy Hour” with some really awesome deals on their brunch menu items (including drinks). The prices for brunch specials vary by location, but you can expect to pay less than $10 for a full-sized entrée wherever you go (and you can also expect that they’ll be downright delicious).
Although there is no specific menu for children, the price point makes ordering a full-sized meal pretty much a no-brainer. Brunch at Earls is served until 2 pm.
Yellow Door Bistro
119 12 Avenue SW
Brunch Hours – 9 am – 2:30 pm on weekends and statutory holidays
No word of a lie – Yellow Door Bistro has one of the most delicious brunches I’ve ever had. The menu changes weekly, but in the past, I’ve enjoyed everything from bread pudding to eggs benedict, hash browns, sausages, bacon, and more. There are cold continental items such as fresh fruit bowls with steel-cut oatmeal, a charcuterie selection, pastries, and yogurt.
Do you have a favourite family brunch restaurant in Calgary that didn’t make our list? Do you love one of the ones above? We’d love to hear about them in the comments!
