Kid-Friendly Places To Go For Brunch In Calgary

Brunch Calgary

It seems like the words brunch and Calgarian go hand in hand, and with all of the awesome restaurant options available in YYC, it’s easy to see why. With so many of us scrambling to get our eggs on the weekend, it can sometimes be tricky to find a place that not only offers tasty food but is also an inviting place for kiddos to tag along for a bite to eat. If you’re looking for great family brunch restaurants, we’ve got you covered with our list of 9 kid-friendly places to go for brunch in Calgary.

Thomson’s Kitchen + Bar

112 8 Avenue SE (inside the Hyatt)
Brunch Hours – Sundays from 10 am – 2 pm
hyatt.com

Our family recently had the opportunity to check out the brunch menu offered at Thomson’s Kitchen + Bar, located inside the Hyatt. We loved the fact that we didn’t have to wait, and that we were given a nice big table in the corner where our kids could colour and look out the window while we waited for our food. The entrance also opens into the hotel lobby, so if you have kiddos who need to move, there is lots of space to wander while you wait (there’s even an escalator for a little added entertainment). The space itself is beautiful and cozy, with some tables offering oversized, plush chairs, comfy bench seating, and a fireplace in the main dining area. There were lots of tasty brunch options for anyone with a larger appetite, and the kids’ menu offered a variety of choices for $6. The portion sizes were perfect for our little ones, who enjoyed every bite! Even if you aren’t a guest of the hotel, Thomson’s Kitchen + Bar is a great place to enjoy brunch on Sundays from 10-2!

Diner Deluxe’s Aspen location comes highly recommended by parents thanks to their kids’ play area that makes waiting a little more fun! The Aspen location is also the only of their three locations that accepts reservations both online and by telephone. All three locations offer kids’ menus for guests 12 and under that include everything from classic cold cereal to French toast, breakfast sandwiches and more. All kids’ menu items are under $10. They have an extensive menu for grownups including classics like eggs benedict, omelettes, and huevos rancheros, as well as mouth-watering items like fried chicken and waffles and stuffed French toast.

The Bro’Kin Yolk

3 locations – Creekside, Signal Hill and Mahogany
Breakfast/Brunch Hours – Daily from 7:30 am – 3 pm
brokinyolk.ca

There are so many reasons to love Bro’Kin Yolk, and their incredible food is an obvious place to start. Aside from mouth-watering grownup menu items like their Eggs Benny, Breakfast Poutine and Breakfast Classics like Chicken & Waffles, they also have a Kids’ Menu with brunch and lunch options for $7.25. Understanding that little ones aren’t particularly good at waiting in long brunch lineups, The Bro’Kin Yolk has a waitlist system that allows you to get in line from home by calling ahead and having the restaurant text you back when your table is almost ready. They also have a chalkboard by the door to keep budding artists busy until it’s time to grab a seat!

OEB

3 locations – Bridgeland, Downtown, Mission
Breakfast/Brunch Hours – Open 7 am – 2:45 pm daily at Bridgeland and Mission locations; Open 6:30 am – 2 pm M-F and 8 am – 2:45 pm on weekends downtown

If you haven’t had a chance to visit OEB for breakfast, you’ll definitely want to add this Calgary staple to your list. With a monster menu filled with more options than you can shake a fork at, your biggest challenge will probably be deciding between savoury or sweet. The good news is, whatever you pick, it’s all delicious! Visit their website to view live wait times and line up virtually using the Yelp app. While OEB doesn’t take reservations on the weekend, you can make one over the phone or by email during the week. Although there isn’t a set kids’ menu, if you ask your server, they do have kids’ pancakes, bowls, french toast and more available to order.

Cora

2 locations – Sunridge Mall, Northland Village
Breakfast/Brunch Hours – Monday – Saturday from 6 am – 3 pm, Sundays from 7 am – 3 pm
chezcora.com

Cora is a breakfast spot popular with kids and parents alike thanks to their pretty plate presentations, generous portion sizes and delicious food. Cora has menu options created for kids 12 and under in addition to their “Teen’s Favourites” and regular menu items. Cora also offers a loyalty program where you can collect points to help save money on future breakfast visits! If you’re having a hard time deciding, their crepes are a classic!

Phil’s

4 Locations – North Hill, Forest Lawn, 11 Avenue, and Glenmore Trail
Breakfast Hours – Daily from open (varies by location) – 8 pm
phils.ca

Phil’s is a classic breakfast restaurant that families love because Phil’s love families! For kids 8 and under dining with parents, Phil’s provides free dollar-sized pancakes, as well as baby utensils and mashed potatoes and gravy and vegetables for extra little ones. They also have a Lil’ Appetites menu with smaller portions and activity books for colouring and filled with brain teasers to keep kiddos busy while they wait. Pancakes, crepes, waffles, french toast, eggs, bacon, sausages and more are all on the menu at totally reasonable prices.

We recently discovered that most Earls locations have a “Brunch Happy Hour” with some really awesome deals on their brunch menu items (including drinks). The prices for brunch specials vary by location, but you can expect to pay less than $10 for a full-sized entrée wherever you go (and you can also expect that they’ll be downright delicious). Our family loves the fact that we are usually able to get in without a wait, and can have brunch for the whole family at a totally reasonable price. Although there is no specific menu for children, the price point makes ordering a full-sized meal pretty much a no-brainer. Brunch at Earls is served until 2 pm, but Happy Hour ends at noon!

Smuggler’s Inn

6920 Macleod Trail SW
Brunch Hours – Weekends 9:30 am – 2 pm
smugglers.ca

If you’re like me and have a hard time choosing what to tuck into for brunch, why not try a brunch buffet? Smuggler’s Inn has a huge breakfast buffet with a special rate for kids ($25 for adults, $21 for seniors, and $1.50 x their age for kids 3-12). With made to order omelettes, hand-carved beef and ham, waffles with various toppings, hash browns, bacon, sausages, eggs benedict and more, you’re sure to find something delicious to fill up everyone’s belly at Smuggler’s! Weekend reservations are available.

No word of a lie – Yellow Door Bistro has one of the most delicious brunch buffets I’ve ever had. It’s $26 per adult and $12 for kids under 12 for their selection of mouth-watering hot brunch items. The menu changes weekly, but in the past, I’ve enjoyed everything from bread pudding to eggs benedict, hash browns, sausages, bacon and more. In addition, their tableside service includes toast, bagels, cereals, coffee, tea and juice. There is a continental buffet available for $15 with cold items such as fresh fruit bowls with steel-cut oatmeal, a charcuterie selection, pastries and yogurt (all of which are also offered as part of the hot buffet). If buffet dining isn’t your style, there are also à la carte items available. The fun chairs and cute décor are just a bonus to the amazing food! Weekend reservations are available.

Do you have a favourite brunch restaurant that didn’t make our list? Do you love one of the ones above? We’d love to hear about them in the comments!
