How To Celebrate a Birthday Virtually in Ottawa

Virtual birthday party options Ottawa

As the pandemic continues to change how we celebrate special occasions together (all while being apart), we know families all over the City of Ottawa are still looking for a way to mark their birthday milestones with friends and family, safely. Planning a virtual birthday party has become much more of the norm in the past twelve months, and likely will continue for some time.

We’ve found some wonderfully creative places in Ottawa that will help you plan, prepare and execute a birthday party for your toddler, school-aged child, tween or teen, online. From porch drops and Zoom calls, here’s how you can wow your kids for their next pandemic birthday party (and let’s hope we will be back to in-person fun soon enough!)

Virtual Pottery Party

Arrange for a Take-Home Party Package from Crock A Doodle where guests can paint their own pottery piece during their online video party. You just need to drop off the kits to friends’ houses and arrange for a Google Meet or birthday Zoom hangout!

Each of your guests will receive a wrapped pottery package with the pottery piece of your choice, paints and brushes. There are special bonuses and surprises too, plus the birthday child receives a celebration plate to decorate! When the party is done, arrange to drop off all the pieces to be fired in the kiln, then deliver them to the party go-ers another day. Invitations and thank you cards are a part of the package too!

Hang out with Animals

The Zoo Crew is offering virtual sessions with their furry, feathered or scaled friends! You can choose from a 30-minute visit or an hour-long virtual hang out where the animals are sure to delight mini guests. Plan for some games too! This birthday party is offered in French and English and is perfect for any age.

Rock out

Monkey Rock has long been a popular birthday choice for families in the Ottawa area, and we are thankful they are continuing to offer their songs and interactive fun to kids virtually. Friends and family will be singing along and in no time guests will be jumping up out of their computer chairs to dance to the music during this party.

Birthday Bake Off

Julianna Banana offers virtual cooking classes and their birthday parties have three themes to choose from Teatime (where guests will create 2 or 3 treats), Pizza Party, or choose the cake baking and decorating party (this way everyone can have cake in celebration of the birthday child!). If you prefer something different they also offer custom packages.

Mad about Science

Your young scientists can celebrate a virtual birthday party with Mad Science! They’ll help handle the details to help ensure a successful party. Their packages vary depending on how many people will be attending and the theme you choose, plus there are add-ons like goody bags (filled with science-themed toys) to help ensure stress-free planning.

Host a Magical Party

Birthday Party Magic has two different virtual party options. One is the virtual scavenger hunt where guests try to gather items in their homes for points (and the chance to win a prize) all on Zoom. There are two age groups available, and you can choose who your party host it; maybe a pirate, adventurous archeologist, or a superhero!  The other option is to invite guests to an online magic show. This interactive magical event will even invite kids to be the magician’s assistants. The magic show is 30 minutes in length and includes a grand finale for the birthday child! A Zoom link is provided.
