As much as we love our babies, we don’t love all the stress they put on our bodies, especially during pregnancy. Prenatal yoga can work wonders to relieve tension and prepare the body for childbirth—but we know that finding the right yoga class and environment, prenatal or no, can be tricky. That’s why we were thrilled to discover Junction 9 offers prenatal yoga and pilates classes.

Located in trendy Inglewood, this studio is a soothing oasis from the hustle and bustle of the inner city. A lovely lounge invites students to linger at the large harvest table before and after class. An in-house healthy café serves up local juices, plus energy balls that give you just the right amount of boost without any added sugar or gluten.

Both prenatal yoga and pilates classes are gentle and offer lots of modifications for those further along in their pregnancy. These registered classes allow you join a community of likeminded mamas-to-be, as you unwind and gain strength together. Prenatal Pilates focuses on your deepest core muscles and pelvic floor, while improving posture, flexibility and core stability as your belly blossoms. And it’s a true pilates class on reformer machines. Yoga classes connect you to baby (and prepare you for labour) through breath work. You’ll relax and find moments of clarity through appropriate postures.

Once baby is born, sign up for Mum and Bub Yoga, a six- week registered yoga class taught by a certified post-natal teacher. Designed for moms with babies who can’t yet crawl, this class helps restore core and pelvic floor strength, with a focus on lower back safety. Junction 9 understands how unpredictable babies can be, so random feedings and diaper changes are welcome. (There is a baby change station in the women’s washroom.)

Don’t despair if you didn’t register in time. They always offer a few drop in spots each week. Namasate.
