Last Chance! Don’t Miss These End-of-Summer Events and Exhibits in Ottawa

Nobody panic, but the summer is almost over.

And even though some families may be rejoicing and ready to ring in another school season, others are looking at their summer bucket list and starting to worry about doing all the activities they really wanted to do before the summer is all over. As the weeks wind down, there are certain events and exhibits that are only available for a short amount of time. We made a list of many that are leaving Ottawa at the end of Labour Day weekend in September.

If any of these were on your summertime fun list, now is the time to try and catch them before it’s too late.

The Sound and Light Show

Northern Lights: The Sound and Light Show at Parliament Hill is only around until September 3. You can catch it at 9:30 pm in August, or starting at 9 pm in September. This spectacular event, with music and lights, will artistically take you on a journey through Canada’s history.

The Art of the Brick

The stunning and incredibly unique The Art of the Brick LEGO exhibit at the Canadian Museum of Science and Technology is only in Ottawa until September 3. It’s a ticketed exhibit, but members will receive a discounted admission. There are pieces of art that will leave you breathless, plus a place for the kids to play and explore using LEGO. This is a must-see for art lovers and LEGO lovers alike.

Nokia Bike Days

The Nokia Sunday Bike Days will soon be wheeled away for another year. The paths will remain available to cyclists on Sundays only until September 2nd. Grab your family’s helmets choose your path. With over 50 km of roadway available for cycling, you’ll discover a very unique way to see the city.

Ottawa Champions Baseball

You haven’t struck out yet and can still see an Ottawa Champions baseball game before their season is finished on September 3. There are still some home games left to attend and cheer on the Ottawa Champions. With ballpark food, the team mascot walking the grounds, and other activities happening around the stadium for the kids, this affordable outing is the perfect way to hold onto those summer days just a little bit longer.

Storytime at Rideau Hall

Every Friday and Saturday, until August 25, families can still enjoy storytime at Rideau Hall. You’ll have one last chance to participate before the program ends for the summer. From 1 pm until 3 pm on Friday and Saturday, the kids will enjoy a story and literacy activities under the reading tent at Rideau Hall.

The Armour Exhibit at The Canadian War Museum

Have you taken your kids to see Iron Man’s armour at the Canadian War Museum yet? You only have until September 3 to check out the Armour exhibit at the museum. This special exhibit will take you through the history and use of armour in battles, in sports and in pop culture. There’s even an area where the kids can play dress up and check out Captain America’s shield or Wonder Woman’s armbands!

Brain: The Inside Story at the Canada Nature Museum

What’s really happening in our brain? The Brain exhibit explores the human brain with hands-on activities and interesting displays in this special feature on until September 3 at the Canada Museum of Nature.

Calypso Water Park

If you want one last splash of summer, head to Calypso Water Park, just East of Ottawa, before their season closes on September 3. There’s a wave pool, plenty of water slides, and areas for younger water lovers to enjoy as well! It’s a great way to beat the heat before summer is over.
